Danner Light

$330.00
|  Style 30440
USA Crafted

Rich, full-grain leather and durable Denier nylon give the Danner Light an updated look, while keeping its classic silhouette.

As far as this boot is concerned, it’s still the golden era of backpacking. To build it, Danner bootmakers sought out leathers identical to those used on the original model. This reintroduced classic features stitchdown construction and ground-chewing Vibram® Kletterlift outsoles. Full-grain leather and 1000 Denier nylon uppers deliver outstanding protection and support in a relatively lightweight package.

Boot Details
  • Made in the USA
  • 100% waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX® liner is engineered to keep your feet dry and comfortable - even in extreme conditions
  • Full-grain, leather upper offers a classic look with superior waterproof protection and durability combined with 1000 Denier nylon side panels for abrasion resistance and improved breathability
  • Danner's hand crafted stitchdown construction provides a wider platform for increased stability underfoot. This construction makes the boot recraftable in our Portland factory
  • Danner® Airthotic® a half- length, molded polyurethane instep that cups the heel and supports the arch area of the foot
  • Danner's 650 EE last offers a roomier fit without sacrificing support and stability. We recommend sizing down a half size for the best fit.
  • Vibram® Kletterlift outsole is specifically designed for comfort and durability. The heel provides lightweight comfort as well as superb shock absorption. The compound guarantees great traction and stability on both wet and dry surfaces
  • Fiberglass shank
  • 6" height
  • 61 oz
  • Recraftable
650 EE Last
Danner's 650 EE last offers a roomier fit for relaxed comfort while still offering rugged support and stability. This EE is not as wide as others so it offers the most universal fit for casual, everyday wear. We recommend sizing down a half size for the best fit.

Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • Measure both feet. If one foot is slightly larger than the other, select a size that fits the larger of the two.
  • Consider the type of socks you’ll be wearing with your boot. For thicker socks, you may want to select a half size larger than you normally wear.
  • When you do receive your boots, we recommend first wearing them indoors for a few hours to ensure they’re the right fit.

        Comments about Danner Light:

This is a review for big men. I weigh 300 pounds and have a pronation problem. I have a rather large custom orthotic, and my shoe size is 13D. My foot has more of a straight last shape so I went with a 13 EE to account for the orthotic.

The Danner Light accommodated the orthotic with no problem. No lifting in the heel, or pressure in the instep/forefoot. The boot is firm, but not overwhelmingly so. While it will take weeks to break in, the first few days have not been a problem. I wore them 2 hours the first day, then 3 the next, 4 the next, etc.

They look fine with Khakis/Docker type slacks. The total weight of 4 pounds appeals to me. I am a big tennis player, and have large legs. The weight is good for me, but might not be for someone expecting a "Danner Light" to be light in weight. These are not tennis shoe-like boots. They are heavier and sturdier. The heel counter is firm and needs time to break in. Lacing is important in your first few weeks of wear. Pay close attention to tension.

For a guy my size, the EVA midsole may end up crunching down prematurely, so recrafting is a plus. I would imagine bigger guys might need to take advantage of this service more often than lighter weight folks. I hope to get a minimum of 2 years of wear from each re-sole, based on my weight and usage. I will wear these as my primary casual shoes.

The most important thing I wanted to impart is the sizing issue. If you have a straight shaped foot, go with the EE width. Use your favorite orthotic. It will fit. When you measure your foot length, remember to measure heel to toe length AND heel to ball length. Use the larger number as shown on your store's measuring device (brannock). You'll be good to go. Enjoy your shoes.

        Comments about Danner Light:

Bought at EMS in 1958 and have resoled 3X, but still going strong. Mostly used in Colorado for everything the Rockies could throw at me, including snow and ice climbing. My feet have spread a bit, but the boots are still OK in fit.

              Comments about Danner Light:

Bravo, this boot deserves a standing ovation for its ruggedness, dependability and comfort. However, be careful of rodents for they will like your boots as much as you. During a backpacking trip in the Three Sisters Wilderness, I left my boots outside of my tent for the evening. Lo and behold, little critters chewed my boots to smithereens. Hmm, did I get Booted? That was in 94. So I bought a new pair and they have lasted for almost 20 years and still going strong, even though I have resoled them thrice and have used shoe goo to make minor repairs.

                  Comments about Danner Light:

I bought these over thirty years ago as a hiking boot. I am just now looking at something a little lighter for hiking, maybe a little rock climbing, but these still look and feel great. Perhaps not as much ankle support as some backpacking boots and certainly not as light as today's trail shoes, but these will be around when those others are in the trash. These really protect your feet. Not a lot of padding, just good leather, and tough soles.
