Quick Overview

Rich, full-grain leather and durable Denier nylon give the Danner Light an updated look, while keeping its classic silhouette.
Details

Setting the standard with GORE-TEX liners since 1978

As far as this boot is concerned, it's still the golden era of backpacking. To build it, Danner bootmakers sought out leathers similar to those used on the original Danner Light, introduced in 1978. This classic-inspired boot features stitchdown construction and a Vibram Kletterlift outsole for stable traction on a variety of terrain. The Danner Light Khaki is still built by hand, in our Portland, Oregon factory with rich full grain leather, denier nylon panels and a waterproof GORE-TEX liner.

Full-Grain Leather & 1000 Denier Nylon Upper
Made from a combination of our premium full-grain leather and 1000 Denier nylon, this upper is extremely durable.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Vibram® Kletterlift Outsole
Specifically designed for comfort and durability; the heel provides superb shock absorption and the rubber compound guarantees great traction and stability on both wet and dry surfaces.
Stitchdown Construction
Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, our legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot. Many of our stitchdown boots can be recrafted.
How It Fits
The 650 EE last offers a roomier fit for relaxed comfort while still offering rugged support and stability. This EE is not as wide as others so it offers the most universal fit for casual, everyday wear. We recommend sizing down a half size for the best fit.
Recraftable
Extend the life of your boot with our recrafting services. This boot is eligible for a number of services, including part replacement, leather care and restitching. See our Recrafting page.

These boots are the ones I have been dying to get. The traditional look and feel are what drew me to them. Being an owner of the Desert RAT, Acadia and Roseburg(limited run, similar to the Sierra) I wanted something I could wear around town and still handle the outdoors. I've worn these to church with a pair of corduroy pants and a vintage brown and tan tie. They go well with a pair of jeans and a tee shirt also. I've never understood people who say there was no break in, maybe my feet are sensative but I feel I need to break in my running shoes. These felt fine out of the box and now that I've been wearing them, for a few months, almost on a daily basis they are feeling more and more like the 'fits like a glove' feel.
Just today I passed my department's pack test for wildland firefighting(3 mile hike with a 45lbs pack under 45 min). Normally I'd wear my running shoes but I chose to go with my Danner Lights and couldn't have been happier, no blisters and I feel I could have kept going. I think I'll use them every year from here on out.
My only worry with owning so many Danner boots is that I won't have enough time to wear them out. I want to experience Danner's recrafting service.

This review is for the women's version. These are the narrowest boots I have ever encountered...and I mean unbelievably narrow! I have regular B width feet, but do prefer a roomy toebox. The boots squeezed my feet like a vice. They should not be labeled a B width, since they are not even close. Unless you have extremely narrow feet, don't bother. Well made boots, but they are not made for human feet!

Comments about Danner Light Khaki:

This is a review for big men. I weigh 300 pounds and have a pronation problem. I have a rather large custom orthotic, and my shoe size is 13D. My foot has more of a straight last shape so I went with a 13 EE to account for the orthotic.

The Danner Light accommodated the orthotic with no problem. No lifting in the heel, or pressure in the instep/forefoot. The boot is firm, but not overwhelmingly so. While it will take weeks to break in, the first few days have not been a problem. I wore them 2 hours the first day, then 3 the next, 4 the next, etc.

They look fine with Khakis/Docker type slacks. The total weight of 4 pounds appeals to me. I am a big tennis player, and have large legs. The weight is good for me, but might not be for someone expecting a "Danner Light" to be light in weight. These are not tennis shoe-like boots. They are heavier and sturdier. The heel counter is firm and needs time to break in. Lacing is important in your first few weeks of wear. Pay close attention to tension.

For a guy my size, the EVA midsole may end up crunching down prematurely, so recrafting is a plus. I would imagine bigger guys might need to take advantage of this service more often than lighter weight folks. I hope to get a minimum of 2 years of wear from each re-sole, based on my weight and usage. I will wear these as my primary casual shoes.

The most important thing I wanted to impart is the sizing issue. If you have a straight shaped foot, go with the EE width. Use your favorite orthotic. It will fit. When you measure your foot length, remember to measure heel to toe length AND heel to ball length. Use the larger number as shown on your store's measuring device (brannock). You'll be good to go. Enjoy your shoes.

Comments about Danner Light Khaki:

Bought at EMS in 1958 and have resoled 3X, but still going strong. Mostly used in Colorado for everything the Rockies could throw at me, including snow and ice climbing. My feet have spread a bit, but the boots are still OK in fit.

    Comments about Danner Light Khaki:

Shoes, like relationships, need to be used a lot inorder to appreciate them. The days of throw away boots are upon us and it seems like people have forgotten that it takes time to really make a boot apart of your foot. These boots were comfortable out of the box. Now, two years later, they are like an extension of my own body. No hot spots, blisters or worries. I've been putting in long hikes and backpacking trips with them and just got back from Havasupai, logging in over 30 miles in two days. Danner continues to make a quality American product.
They clean up nice and go well with jeans.

      Comments about Danner Light Khaki:

I will Start with the positive. These shoes are well made and look great. One of the few hiking boots that look good. My issue is with the fit and comfort. I have tried everything to make these boots work. Silk sock liner and darn tough socks, inserts, with the plastic insert, without the plastic insert and after 30 minutes of walking my feet are killing me. I purchased them for a long backpacking trip I am taking in August and I figured I had a long break in period. I have tried walking in these shoes at least 8 times hoping they would break in and today I finally gave up. These are not wide width boots so for anyone looking for E or 2E look elsewhere. I wish they were as comfortable as they are good looking!
