Overview

The Danner® Light II™ is USA-made, classically designed, and packed with features. A pebble-grain leather and 1000 Denier nylon upper combined with Danner stitchdown construction offer unparalleled durability and stability. The waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® lining keeps feet dry, and the Vibram® Kletterlift outsole provides lightweight comfort, superb shock absorption, and great traction and stability on both wet and dry surfaces.

How it Fits

The 650 last offers a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit. Boots on this last tend to fit those with a more narrow foot better than those with a wider foot. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) in this style.

I have just completed three weeks of backpacking through eastern Europe with these boots. They performed admirably in all conditions--snow, ice, mud, water... and even in the nice restaurants they still looked great. My feet were always dry, and the soles were great for most surfaces. They are quiet in the big cathedrals and easy to maintain after a day of hiking in slush.

I've had these for 6 months. I want to like them because they are leather and vibram, American-made, and stitch-down soles. They are comfortable, but here are my issues with the boot:
-The plastic heel counters inside the boots do not hold up. I can hear the counter in the right boot click and it is loose.
-For me, the cut of the boot is tight in the forward part and loose in the ankle. I think this exacerbates the heel counter issue and makes the counters break. I've used heel locker lacing to try to counteract this and can't really keep my heel tight in the heel cup.
-The Danner insoles don't really work for me and there wasn't sufficient space for me in the boot to use an aftermarket insole until they had stretched after a couple of months of wear.
-They do stretch. Stretch is normal with leather, but these stretch a lot.
-The stretch and heel counters breaking leads to a loss of support over time and walking out on the heels and means they don't hold up to heavy use in the field. I'm retiring mine to town use and light stuff.

Comments about Danner Light II Dark Brown Hiking Boots:

I do not write these reviews often but I have got to say that these are impressive boots. I was hoping for a quality product given the Danner rep, but these have exceded my expectations. I do not know who thinks these need break-in time but I found them very nice right out of the box. I have gone through many brands top of the line boots: Merrell, Vasque, Asolo, Patagonia, Solomon, and Ecco to name a few, but these beat them all. Tough as mails, and recraftable. You will not regret the purchase.

Exactly three years

Comments about Danner Light II Dark Brown Hiking Boots:

I got three good years out of the boots, every day on concrete, and i will still use them as a second pair. However, the toe has worn through to the inside plastic or whatever and there's major cracking on the left boot. Not possible to recraft them, according to Danner HQ. I'll be honest, i was planning on more than 3 years when i asked for these, really counting on recrafting. At over 200 bucks, it hit my family hard. I'm not going to purchase Danner the next go round and see what a little less expensive boot will do.

Comments about Danner Light II Dark Brown Hiking Boots:

This is my first pair of US made Danners and I am very impressed with the quality of this product. I have never had a pair of boots that are built this well. The leather is top notch and the overall construction of the boot displays quality. The break-in period is a couple of hours and overall these are more comfortable out of the box than my Danner Radicals. My only issue is that there is not an insole but at least it comes with an Airthotic insert.
