Quick Overview

Smokejumpers and other wildland firefighters depend on their boots to perform in the most dangerous and demanding conditions. Danner's Wildland Firefighting boots have been a tool of the trade for decades. Each version just gets better and better. This boot looks like our original Flashpoint but has been re-engineered with an all-leather upper and with a foot-conforming heel and toe box.
Details

Designed for performance in the most dangerous conditions

We wanted to give wildland firefighters and smokejumpers the toughest, safest, most comfortable boot that human hands could build. To make it happen, we used Vibram Fire Logger outsoles, special Nomex stitching, and fire-retardant leather. We put these pieces together in a boot that was designed for exceptional comfort, fit, and durability.

Flashpoint Leather
Fire, puncture, and water-resistant 8oz. leather.
Nomex® Stitching
Fire-resistant, triple stitched for superior endurance.
90º heel
Added safety for boots used on steep terrain, climbing in and out of equipment, and use with certain tools.
Vibram® 360 degree Fire Logger outsole
Designed for fire and abrasion resistance with substantial edging and superior traction.
Women's Sizing
This boot is available in men's and women's sizing, please ensure that you've selected the correct width for your needs.
Stitchdown Construction
Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, our legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot. Many of our stitchdown boots can be recrafted.
How It Fits
The 74 last is designed specifically for traditional logger style boots containing a removable footbed. It offers a standard profile with a more regular fit. Boots on this last tend to fit true to size. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) or “EEEE” (extra wide) in this style.
Recraftable
Extend the life of your boot with our recrafting services. This boot is eligible for a number of services, including part replacement, leather care and restitching. See our Recrafting page.

Made in USA with Imported Components

We source the best materials from around the world and utilize some construction work overseas before shipping partially assembled components to be finished in our Portland, Oregon factory. Once in our factory, the boot uppers are formed and the entire bottom of the boot is constructed by hand, giving us greater control over the finished product. This manufacturing process allows us to bring you a less expensive USA made boot without compromising the quality you expect from Danner.

These are great boots, that look sharp. The aggresive tread, makes climbing loose slopes a breeze. They only have one drawback for me. The heel area is a bit too loose for me. I've tried lacing the boots really tight, in order to prevent my heels from shifting up and down. Too keep them from shifting, I needed two pairs of socks, one set being heavy wool socks.

Due to the boot not having an inner liner, the rough leather will abrade your inner heels, causing bad blisters. To prevent this, try adding moleskin to your inner heels, before using heavy socks.

You can tell the boot was well crafted. Even with EE width, the big and little toe mound areas are snug; heel area is loose. I would recommend ordering a half-size smaller than you do with other Danner boots and see if it helps. Don't expect to have an out-of-the-box boot to wear. Break-in time is significant. Would like to see an option for GoreTex lining, but would guess that it can't be NFPA rated?

Comments about Flashpoint II 10" All Leather Black:

These boots are made for wildland fire fighting. They are flame resistant and heavy for a reason and everything about them is overbuilt. I think they are easer to wear than Whites, and the fit for a non custom boot is, for me, superb. I will need a couple of seasons to judge the performance and durability, but so far, I'm very pleased!

By Chris FFT1

from Central Point, Oregon

Pros

Cons

  • Tremendous Boot Bite

Comments about Flashpoint II 10" All Leather Black:

7th year Wildland firefighter, previous Danner boots (Quarry, Flashpoint).
Used in rugged terrain during extreme conditions and long rigorous hiking.

Initial fit is good on flat ground although the heal seemed a little sloppy. Once off of flat ground and actually trudging up the mountain, the seams below the first eyelet dug into feet badly. Also a tremendous amount of boot bite between the 5th and 7th eyelets.

Blisters on heal, toes, top of lower foot, top of upper foot, and ankle.

If you buy these, prepare to use a lot of moleskin and duct tape.

Have been wearing them for everyday use to try and break them in for their second season. We will see when the dirt starts flying if it has done any good.

    Another Great Boot

    By Operator

Comments about Flashpoint II 10" All Leather Black:

Another great Danner boot. The fit is perfect and the toe box is just the right size.At my size 11, this boot is a perfect fit at Danner's size 11. There is some roughness in the heel area, but the proper socks will take care of this. These boots are tough and I believe they will last 20 years!
