Quick Overview

To you, they're rugged work boots with waterproof GORE-TEX® liners and ground-chewing, ultra-stable soles. To a bootmaker in Portland, Oregon, they're a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
Details

Our USA-made staple for rugged, outdoor work.

A great all-purpose work boot, the Rain Forest GTX boot is lined in GORE-TEX for breathable, waterproof protection and features full-grain leather for rugged durability. Stitchdown construction means a wider platform for greater stability, and angled lugs in the outsole provide substantial support whether ascending or descending. Center lugs deliver maximum traction on wet and dry surfaces.

Full-Grain Leather Upper
To ensure its quality, we put our leather through nine different tests before making our selection. Our full-grain leathers are the strongest and most durable form of leather.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Triple Stitched
Hyper-strong thread is used to triple stitch our toughest boots.
Electrical Hazard (EH) Protection
Meets or exceeds ASTM F2892-11 EH. Electrical hazard (EH) footwear is manufactured with non-conductive electrical shock resistant soles and heels.
Vibram® 132 Montagna Outsole
Using a premium, work specific compound, this outsole is more stable underfoot. The durable, deep-lugged rubber provides unparalleled traction in any work environment.
Stitchdown Construction
Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, our legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot. Many of our stitchdown boots can be recrafted.
Recraftable
Extend the life of your boot with our recrafting services. This boot is eligible for a number of services, including part replacement, leather care and restitching. See our Recrafting page.

I use these boots in rugged terrain in most types of weather. They had a short break-in period and feel great - sometimes I forget I'm wearing boots. As someone who's often on their feet going over rough ground, foot-comfort is HUGE. I have pretty wide feet (EE), and these boots beat the comfort of the firefighting boots I had made from a custom last several years back. I ended up giving those away.

At this point, my only constructive criticisms are as follows: Firstly, I wish they were available in a slightly thicker rough-out version; the smooth-finish exteriors are VERY vulnerable to scratching/cutting just by moving through heavy brush or over rocky terrain. Secondly, they could have a bit more arch support, but I dig the way included insole grabs my heel.

That's it - considering ordering a second pair as backup.

I rely on durable boots for seasonal forestry work. I purchased my first pair of Danner boots (Rainforest plain toe) through the website in spring 2011. For the first few months they were comfortable and offered good support (I added insoles from another company). Unfortunately by fall 2012 one of the boots had developed a wear hole in the back, just above the heel, despite me only wearing them seasonally (perhaps 6 months out of the year) and only using Danner boot dressing and water proofing gel. I was disappointed by this, as I was expecting the leather to last several years.

Comments about Rain Forest 8" Brown:

Growing up on a farm in the Midwest, I've owned several pair of workboots. Recently, I've been through 3 pair of Redwings that lasted only months, in addition to causing a pinched nerve in my big toe and a nasty irritation on the top of my feet.

After addressing my toe issue, my podiatrist advised me to search for "a quality pair of boots". That search ended with my first pair of Danner's.

These boots broke-in easily. The narrow fit allows me to lace them tightly without causing any irritation on my foot.

This is, simply, the most comfortable pair of boots that I've ever owned. The fit, features, and style are great.

What led me to Danner was the fact that they are American made. What will lead me back is the construction of these boots. The folks at Danner truly know what they are doing.
