Great boot. This is my third pair same model. Have not found anything better. I back pack 500 to 700 miles back country every season. One pair of boots last me thru rivers, rough, loose rock, blazingly hot sand, and scorching heat. They will even last the six months off season around town 4 to 9 miles a day on pavement. As are most boots with this tough a sole they can be a bit slick over wet rock. As you can expect your feet will never stone bruise and if you abuse them as I do you will thank Danner for the above board stability and solid stiching. The only boots better in my opinion, until something better proves me wrong, are Danners.

First time Danner boot owner. I have had these boots now for about 14 months. They are the most comfortable out of the box boots I have ever owned. Warm and waterproof with a nice fit and I have a narrow flat foot. Owning a residential window washing company, I wear them daily up and down ladders, on and off roofs, to work around the house on projects. GREAT upper boot, the sole sucks! (I've bought cheap $40 hiking boots in the past with better soles). After about 9-months I did not feel as comfortable on roofs as when they were new because of the wear on the sole (liken it to bald or badly worn tires on your car driving on the rain slick roads) now they have a hole in one of the heels which renders them no longer waterproof. I would love to buy another pair however cannot justify spending the type of money on a pair of boots that to the eye still look new (I clean and condition them weekly) but has holes in the soles, making them useless and ready for the trash! DANNER you are better than this and in fact I would of thought you would have done something about this by now given that this is a reoccurring complaint by other users. My solution: just bought a pair of competitors boots...I really wanted to buy Danner but am severely disappointed. The title says it all!

Comments about Danner Radical 452 GTX Brown Hiking Boots:

Use: moderate hiking (2-4 miles) ~26 weekends/year and some casual day wear in winter.
Pros: Absolutely great fitting, comfy boots.
Cons: Soles are terrible. I've gone through 2 pair in 2 years and that's with wearing the sole 'til it's practically flat. Sole becomes slick after only ~6 mos.

Summary: I've bought Radicals twice now because they were so comfy but the quick sole wear is too problematic and I won't be buying another --- if Danner put a better sole on these they'd be the #1 perfect hiking shoes.

Comments about Danner Radical 452 GTX Brown Hiking Boots:

Just over two months of wear, the boots have developed a large crack right below the balls of my feet, and water has been slowly leaking in. The boots are very comfortable, but the soles wear out way to quickly. If Danner could put on a better sole these would be great boots.

Comments about Danner Radical 452 GTX Brown Hiking Boots:

I had owned Danner boots in the past & they were both durable & long lasting. Had this pair for only 9 months & the soles started to separate. They were barely used. I returned them & got another pair, figuring that the first pair was a fluke. My second pair's soles started to separate after 15 months. What a disappointment. I liked the boots, but weren't worth the [$] I paid for them, since they lasted an average of only 12 months. My previouse Danner boots are over 12 years old & are still like new. I'm suprised Danner continues to sell this boot & ruin their good name.

Comments about Danner Radical 452 GTX Brown Hiking Boots:

    #

    * I've worn a pair of Radical 452's for over a year. I used them for approach shoes to the sandstone and limestone rock climbs near Red Rocks, NV. They are also my construction work boots. With orthotics installed they worked perfectly and comfortably. Lasted about 1 and ½ times longer than any other brand I've used previously.

Cons: Dark Liner stain is not colorfast and colored my socks black/blue at the ankles.
