A legend among serious Northwest hunters

Back by popular demand, the legendary Elk Hunter is 100% USA made with premium full-grain leather and our patented Danner Bob self-cleaning outsole. Its classic lace-to-toe design has been a hallmark among serious Northwest hunters for generations. The waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX liner will keep you dry and comfortable no matter what conditions you encounter. And the rugged, stitchdown platform provides added stability for climbing steep canyons and crossing muddy streams. Fully recraftable, the Elk Hunter will be with you season after season. Please note the leather color may vary slightly.

Danner Direct Only
This classic boot is handcrafted in our Portland, Ore. factory. While most of our boots are available through our many retail partners, this exclusive style is only available for purchase directly through our website
or in our Danner stores.
Full-Grain Leather Upper
To ensure its quality, we put our leather through six different tests before making our selection. Our full-grain leathers are the strongest and most durable form of leather.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Danner Bob® Outsole
Ranked among the world's best hunting outsoles due to its popularity with upland bird hunters and adaptability to earl and late season terrains.
Stitchdown Construction
Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, our legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot. Many of our stitchdown boots can be recrafted.
How It Fits
The 650 last offers a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit. Boots on this last tend to fit those with a more narrow foot better than those with a wider foot. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) in this style.
Recraftable
Extend the life of your boot with our recrafting services. This boot is eligible for a number of services, including part replacement, leather care and restitching. See our Recrafting page.

I cannot speak for the new version of this boot, but if it is half the boot the old version was they are still 5+ stars. I received my first pair of Danner boots for my 16th birthday. My first pair of Danner boots was the Elk Hunter. I can still remember how excited I was to receive them as a gift. From the first day I put them on they felt like walking on clouds, I can imagine the only thing more comfortable would be the cloud bed where Zeus sleeps or possibly how a baby may feel in the womb. These Danner Elk Hunters became the most important tool in my outdoor adventures. I could not imagine trekking, hunting, fishing, spelunking or backpacking without them. They became a part of my personality and helped shape my young adulthood. They were on my feel when I climbed some of the highest peaks in Nevada; explored the lowest valleys and I even wore them on every spelunking adventure. Often time spelunking the Danner's would be exposed to extreme mud and water for extended periods of time. The Elk Hunters always came through form me. All in all I would estimate that I put over 1500 trail miles on these boots and wore them from the time I was 16 until an unfortunate summer day when I was 29. The only downfall of these boots was my own cause. I had gotten them soaking wet on an early morning fly fishing adventure. I had taken my shoes off on the back patio as to not track mud in the house (the air bob sole does pick up some mud). I had told myself that once the boots dried out a little I would kick the dirt off and apply some Danner Boot Dressing. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about them and they baked in the summer heat. Unfortunately this caused the boots to shrink to a size that was no longer comfortable. I must say these boots made me a Danner customer for life. Things that you can expect from these boots include: comfort, durability, the air bob sole provides excellent traction, it is a little bit soft and wears slightly faster than the soles on my Rain Forest but provides great shock absorption when sprinting after small game. The lace to toe design allows a glove like fit of the boot around your foot. In fact once you buy a lace to toe boot you will likely never go back. I can't say enough about the old version of these boots and like I said before, if the new version is half the boot the old version is it is still twice the boot a man needs.

I have owned these boots for 1.5 years. About 4 months after I started wearing them the sole separated from the boot, at the toe. The boots started loosing the knobs on the bottom at 4 months and were all gone after 9 months. I fixed the sole separation and decided to go ahead and wear the boots out since they wear so expensive. They are slick but the boot it self has held up very well. It is a very comfortable boot with the Airthotics inserts. I have owned 6-8 pairs of Danner boots and I usually have to replace them every 1.5 yrs.

And and still going strong to this day the boots are the my most comfortable boot's.i only wish i could replace the the out-sole (worn). The craftsmanship that you guys put into my boot's i am thankful for.

Comments about Elk Hunter 8" Brown:

I am on my fourth pair of these boots. They last me at 5-7 years. For me, there is no other boot I'd rather have for (hunting any game)than these boots.I prefer their un insulated model. I also have their insulated style for cooler temps. I use these for everything from bird hunting, big game, predator calling. The "nobs" on the soles will last for years and offer the best traction, no question! I have gone through a lot of boots in fifty years of hunting,. Their low profile makes it very difficult to "roll your ankle", along with the high top lace up, great for traversing hillsides etc.Danner used to make these for Cabela's who doesn't offer them anymore, now you must purchase them directly through Danner. The soles has lasted as long as the uppers for me. They are "Bullet Proof"

I bought my first pair several years ago but they have been unavailable for a few years, glad to see Danner has brought them back. They have been a reliable and comfortable boot. I have worn mine on bear and deer drives in the pennsylvania mountains, they never failed me on the steep and slippery terrain.
