Details

Some boots climb mountains. Others climb worksites.

By incorporating top-of-the-line materials like GORE-TEX and Vibram with a weight-saving platform, we made our tough, versatile work boot feel like the kind of boot you want to put on at the end of a long day. This new last is designed to cup your heel for a secure fit while offering a little more room in the toe box to accommodate feet that are carrying heavy loads. It also comes with a dual-density EVA midsole for extra shock absorption and comfort. The oil- and slip-resistant outsole has a low profile 90-degree heel making it versatile enough for indoor and outdoor work. For really tough jobs it has an abrasion-resistant heel cap, an all-leather upper, a non-metallic safety toe and a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX liner.

Ergonomic fit

To truly create something new, one must start from the ground up. In footwear, that begins with the development of a footwear last, a solid form that literally shapes the fit and performance of the boot. When we designed the last for the Vicious, we took in part the ergonomic structure of the foot, focusing our attention on allowing the toes to naturally splay, and narrowing the heel to lock the foot in place. We then designed the composite safety toe specifically around the last, maintaing the integrity of its fit.

Unconventional support

The Trailguard platform is a unique construction that saves weight and provides torsional strength by integrating an extremely durable TPU shank into the midsole, while the EVA midsole provides cushioning properties. By molding the midsole directly to the outsole and removing a seam, we eliminated weight and added strength. An extremely comfortable and supportive work boot, the Vicious challenges the traditional ideals of how a work boot should perform.

Our standards

While the Vicious may not be a traditional work boot, the standards we adhere to are a long standing tradition to the Danner name. We extensively test each hide and only accept the highest grade of leather. We line the boot upper with waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX, and use the strongest, most rugged Vibram outsoles. We have been upholding these standards since the very beginning and will for years to come. The Vicious is no exception.
Full-Grain Leather Upper
To ensure its quality, we put our leather through six different tests before making our selection. Our full-grain leathers are the strongest and most durable form of leather.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Speed Lace System
Our special hardware allows you to tighten from toe to top with one swift tug for a secure, tight fit.
Electrical Hazard (EH) Protection
Meets or exceeds ASTM F2892-11 EH. Electrical hazard (EH) footwear is manufactured with non-conductive electrical shock resistant soles and heels.
Non-Metallic Toe (NMT)
Our non-metallic toe does not transmit heat or cold. Nor will it set off metal detectors. As expected, it meets or exceeds ASTM F2413-11 M I/75 C/75 EH standards.
90º heel
Added safety for boots used on steep terrain, climbing in and out of equipment, and use with certain tools.
Vibram® Vicious Outsole
Oil- and slip-resistant with a low-profile 90° heel.
Danner Trailguard
Lightweight, seamless support with a roomier fit in the toe box and snug fit in the heel.
How It Fits
The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toe box allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

I have tried Wolverine, Red Wing, Georgia Boot, and Timberlines some with steel toe and some with composite. I work 12 hour shifts walking on concrete and steel grating, going up and down ladders and are the most comfortable boot I have owned yet. I could wear these as my main shoe due to the comfort and the hiker appearance. I have not had any problems with the construction of the shoe but am a little concerned on the orange plastic eyes in the long run. They are a little warm at times in the factory heat conditions but my feet are not any more sweaty than any other work boot. Overall, would buy again and would highly recommend.

The boots are very comfy and fairly light. My only issue is with the toe being very thin (worried about wearing thru it) and cuts very easy. Also the plastic pieces on the lace connectors are breaking off. The lace connectors themselves are metal so no worry there but the little plastic covers (the orange pieces in the pictures) are breaking off one by one. Not a big thing but is starting to look weird with them missing.

Comments about Vicious 4.5" Brown/Orange NMT:

Owned a pair of Danner Radical 452s that I used for 2+ years of constant work on a farm and pavement that were great. I knew my size 13 would fit, and man were they comfortable. Didn't want to take them off after work. The only downside is no toe-protector, though the leather seems plenty durable.

Comments about Vicious 4.5" Brown/Orange NMT:

These boots dont breath at all I wore them for a couple hours in 30 degree weather and when I was took them off my socks were visibly wet. I dont have that problem in the summer with 90+ temps. And now I cant get a decent reply from customer service. Last 2 pairs of Danners have been junk swore last time I wouldnt buy another pair but decided to give them a second chance. Now I know I'm done with this brand of boots. I'll stick with Zamberlands from here on out.
