Overview

The Tramline brings easy-wearing, chukka style to Danner's original mountain boot aesthetic. Hand-crafted in Portland, Ore this boot features rich black Horween leather, Vibram Cristy outsoles, and all-around great styling.

How it Fits

Danner's 650 EE last offers a roomier fit for relaxed comfort while still offering rugged support and stability. This EE is not as wide as others so it offers the most universal fit for casual, everyday wear. We recommend sizing down a half size for the best fit.

Comments about Danner Tramline:

This shoe looks great, seems to break in fast, and is extremely comfortable

Wearing on day one causes a blister on the achilles tendon. I recommend wearing a moleskin to prevent this and also accelerating the break-in in this part of the shoe by manipulating it with your hands. After massaging the shoe in this area for 10 minutes the blistering was drastically reduced and almost completely gone.

On day one, and a little bit on day two I also experienced some rubbing on the ankle bone. This goes away quickly by wearing the shoe and some massaging . No blister ever developed from the rubbing. I also noticed that finishing the laces off with a surgeon's knot before tying kept the collar pulled tight during break-in, forcing the shoe to the shape of my foot, opening the ankle area quicker.

Even after a day of wearing the shoe is, overall, extremely comfortable.

The interior is lined in leather on the heel, collar, and rear half of the insole. The lining makes a seamless (figuratively) transition to a great non-leather fabric halfway through the shoe.

The insole has the perfect amount of give and feels appropriately soft on the bottom of the foot. I couldn't imagine why anybody would put an insert into this shoe.

In terms of looks these shoes look as great if not better in person than they do in the pictures. While I wouldn't purchase them specifically for use with shorts, as they are definitely more of a long pant shoe, it could be pulled off. The shoe comes right up to, but not quite over the ankle and does accommodate my low-cut adidas summer socks with about half an inch of sock above the collar.

These shoes come off to me as perfect for commuting, roaming the city, hanging out at camp, and walking the dog on flat trails. I think it's pretty clear once you look at the outsole that these aren't designed for any kind of high-impact off-pavement use. They seem perfect for a full day tackling the wet pavement of the Pacific Northwest.

Comments about Danner Tramline:

(FYI: This review is for the Trameline Terwilliger, different color, but same boot.)Ready to re-sole a pair of a competitor's boots, I decided to look at what may be available new/on sale. After a bit of searching, I found the Tramline's on sale. I loved the look/design, and US-made captures my eye more and more these days, a new age of off-shored product. I've never had Danners, and the more I read, I had to try them. They were priced the same as a re-sole job, so I nabbed them. I could always return them if they flopped...

I have a wide foot (4E), so when recommendations said to order a 1/2 size smaller due to a 2E footbed, I decided not to go smaller. Without a true 4E width, I know I need at least 1/2 size to get the width I need. The slightly longer length wouldn't be an issue--times with thicker socks would make up for it.

Box arrived, and I opened it up to be more than pleasantly suprised--the boots oozed of quality materials and finish. Also, I exptected an extremely stiff boot to break-in; not the case. With just a little conditioner, these would be a breeze to fit to the foot. The Terwilliger is blue, and is really outstanding in my book. Too bad they are not available any longer--I think my 2nd choice would be a dark brown--maybe Danner will add down the road. The current Tramline would be identical with exception of the color.

Putting the Tramline on, I could immediately tell the quality of boot that is Danner. I was very much impressed, and the comfort right out of the box was fantastic, even with my wide foot. Walking around the house to break them in has been pain-free, no pressure points with my high instep, no hot spots. As mentioned in previuos reviews, the leather lining is only in the heel and tongue--it would be nice if it extended, but isn't a requirement.

I'm waiting on my Waterproofing Gel being sent from the customer support staff. My call into support was also unexpectedly great, considering the holidays/craziness that typically ensues for retailiers--I was expecting a potentially short-fused staff member on the phone, frazzled by customers calling in ordering/complaining/etc. However, the staff member was not that at all! Very nice, explaining the differences in dyeing processes between various lines of Danners, (some 100% dyed through, others slightly less), along with conditioning and waterproofing tips. Fantastic experience for the week before Xmas!!

All in all, I am glad to have made the decision to purchase the Tramline--I feel like I discovered a gem that has been around for years--and am glad that there is still fantastic product being made in the USA, one that can be rebuilt/refurbished as well. I will definitely be looking at Danner's for future purchases. Great Products--well done, Danner!

Almost Perfect

By Bob R

from Portland, OR

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • Easy on and off
  • Excellent Build Quality
  • Looks good

Cons

  • No Waterproof Option
  • white soles

Best Uses

  • Everyday walking

Comments about Danner Tramline:

Lives up to my expectations for well made shoes for heavy casual walking. While the white soles look nice, they get dirty very quickly and require a cleaning after each use to remove dirt stains. Was disappointed that Danner does not offer a waterproof option (like Gore Tex) in this style shoe, given they are a Portland based company (where rain is pretty common) and have a store in equally wet Seattle. They did offer to sell me a waterproof spray on but at the price, I thought they could have almost added the water proofing to the shoe.

These boots are the real deal!

Pros

  • Great style and quality

Cons

  • Get A Half Size Smaller

Best Uses

  • Casual Walking Trails

Comments about Danner Tramline:

The tramline is my gateway boot from Danner, I'm hooked. I will be getting boots from Danner from now on! These can be recrafted, so you can keep them for life. I got these after some research and most agree that the tramline run a bit large, most experienced with this model recommended getting a half size smaller. I wear a 9 in men's, got an 8.5 and the fit is perfect!

Great Shoe

By John Q. Customer

from North America

Pros

  • Comfy

Cons

  • "leather Lining"

Best Uses

    Comments about Danner Tramline:

Comfy right out of the box and only gets better with wear.Description states "leather lined". However, this is only in the heel pocket and tongue. The rest of the shoe is fabric lined. That was disappointing. Still, it's a fantastic shoe. (It's not a boot.)
