Overview

The USA-made Sierra™ is a versatile, three-season boot for the hunter who pursues a variety of game. The Vibram® 1276 Sierra outsole tracks steadily over diverse terrain. GORE-TEX® waterproof breathable lining and 200 G. Thinsulate™ Insulation keep feet dry and warm while the full-grain leather and Cordura® upper combine with Danner’s famous stitchdown construction for outstanding durability and stability underfoot.

How it Fits

The 650 last offers a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit. Boots on this last tend to fit those with a more narrow foot better than those with a wider foot. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) in this style.

The first pair of Danner boots I go were my dad's used Grouse boots, which as the uninsulated version of these, when my feet stopped growing. When they died, my dad got a new pair of Sierra's for himself, but liked the fit of the Sierra's he already had, so he gave me the new pair. Easily the best boots ever. They had no break-in period at all. They were ready to go within a few minutes of wearing them. I use them at work, on rainy days out on the town, hunting, hiking, wherever. They are a little heavy, but nothing extreme. The waterproof feature saved my dry socks quite a few times, and that insulation adds a lot. I've had them for probably 6 years now, and they're still going strong.

The quality can not be disputed. They are just what you would expect from Danner. I have worn Acadia's for year's while on duty and love them. Because I was sick of wearing "Duty" boots off-duty, I decided to try the Sierra's assuming they were just, "Brown Acadia's". Wrong. The Sierra soles are terrible in the cold/snow/ice bordering on dangerous. I fell in the driveway and have had several near fall's since. It's to the point I dont even look at them under these conditions which defeats the purpose of having an insulated hunting, hiking etc. boot. Danner, please offer this boot with the tried and true Kletterlift sole.

Comments about Sierra 8" Brown 200G:

First of all I must say that I love Danner boots. They are built well and last a long, long time. They are an excellent investment. I have a pair of Acadias that are 10 years old and I just had them resoled last year.
Now for the complaint on the Sierras. I ordered these boots since they are the same design as the Acadia. Overall great boots, but the soles on these boots are worthless in temps. below 32 degrees. Danner advertises the Vibram 1276 Sierra outsole "for maximum traction and stability over various terrains, INCLUDING COLD AND WET CONDITIONS". The soles are extremely hard in the cold. You are able to slide on packed snow just as if you were standing on ice. They are actually too dangerous to wear in the winter time, especially on icy surfaces. Climbing over cold logs is also very slippery. I have a pair of Rocky's with this same Vibram sole and have the exact same problem. I took a chance and ordered the Sierra's with Danner's prior assurance that the Sierra sole and the Kletterlift sole were made of the same rubber compound. I believe this to be false. My Acadia's, with the 1748 Kletterlift outsole, provide excellent traction in the cold. When returning into the garage from the cold the Sierra soles are very hard and slippery, like tap shoes. The Kletterlifts are softer and still retain their traction.
Danner did remedy the problem by giving me a discount on a second pair of Acadias that I just ordered. Now I will bring my Sierras into the local shoe shop and get them resoled. I would recommend this style of boots to anyone, but would chose a model with the 1748 Kletterlift sole for cold temperatures.

Comments about Sierra 8" Brown 200G:

As a Marine Officer I wear a pair of the Danner Marine Hot Military boots on a Daily basis. These Danner Sierras are everybit as good as my military Danners! The only detractor is the lacing system on the Sierras. I like the military lacing system much better on the military boots... the Sierras are tremendous and I recommend them to all who ask.

Comments about Sierra 8" Brown 200G:

I'm on my second pair of these boots. I get about ten years out of each pair. They are the most comfortable hunting boot I've ever tried. They are warm down to about 20 degrees, provide me with excellent support and traction. I elk hunt in them about 30 days per year in addition to shoulder season hiking. The lace to toe provide an excellent nearly custom fit. I highly recommend these.
