Details

American crafted for American craftsmen

Over ten years ago, we released the very first Quarry work boot. Since then, it has become a staple for workers around the country. And now, for the first time, we've brought manufacturing of the Quarry, using imported parts, to our Portland, Oregon, factory, at the same time making major improvements to its comfort and durability.

Built to last

Through research and evaluation of previously worn Quarrys, we noticed the midsole was one of the first parts of the boot to break down. For that reason we worked with Vibram to integrate a new highly durable, 12 Iron Vibram midsole with our updated and rugged outsoles.

Wear more. Buy less.

Through a comprehensive field test, we noticed that the back heel stitch was a high wear area from workers kicking their boots off at the end of the day. With a simple redesign, we built additional durability into the Quarry by simply moving the back stitch to the outside of the heel.

Increased comfort

Anyone who wears boots all day knows that comfort is essential. With the launch of the new Quarry, we integrated a construction developed for the military that features a highly comfortable, breathable and extremely durable collar, requiring absolutely no break in time.
Nubuck Leather Upper
Our top-grain leather is sanded on the outside to give it a slight nap with a velvet-like feel. This leather upper is extremely durable, while offering a shorter and more comfortable break-in period.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Triple Stitched
Hyper-strong thread is used to triple stitch our toughest boots.
Electrical Hazard (EH) Protection
Meets or exceeds ASTM F2892-11 EH. Electrical hazard (EH) footwear is manufactured with non-conductive electrical shock resistant soles and heels.
Quarry Midsole
Upgraded the midsole to a single, solid piece for increased longevity
Vibram® Quarry Outsole
This exclusive outsole features a 90º heel, an oil- and slip- resistant rubber compound, and a non-linear lug pattern for superior traction and debris release.
Stitchdown Construction
Handcrafted to provide a wider platform, our legendary stitchdown construction offers increased stability underfoot. Many of our stitchdown boots can be recrafted.
How It Fits
The 610 is our most universal last and can be worn by all foot shapes and sizes. It provides a snug fit through the heel while allowing ample toe room for most versatile fit. This allows more support and side-to-side movement.
Recraftable
Extend the life of your boot with our recrafting services. This boot is eligible for a number of services, including part replacement, leather care and restitching. See our Recrafting page.

Made in USA with Imported Components

We source the best materials from around the world and utilize some construction work overseas before shipping partially assembled components to be finished in our Portland, Oregon factory. Once in our factory, the boot uppers are formed and the entire bottom of the boot is constructed by hand, giving us greater control over the finished product. This manufacturing process allows us to bring you a less expensive USA made boot without compromising the quality you expect from Danner.

I work underground construction from early spring until freeze up. These boots are perfect. They are very comfortable out of the box. Little break in is needed, anyone that says different does not have the proper size on. The boots are breathable, and keep my feet nice and dry. Even if I am standing in water/mud most of the day. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great work boot.

I wish the tongue gusset were a little higher, and I wish the leather came with a DWR already applied. In the photo you can see the leather gusset only comes up to the first hook. This is an issue with water resistance, especially when walking through tall wet grass. Good boots all the same, though.

They are not especially waterproof, despite the Gore-Tex bootie. I treated the leather with a silicone waterproofing spray, PER THE MANUFACTURER'S DIRECTIONS, and let them cure before wearing them. Walking through 3 or 4 inch high damp grass, I felt water trickle in around the toe box. After walking on concrete for a few minutes, my feet felt noticeably drier so I guess they breathe pretty well. Wore them in a light rain, felt a tiny bit of water seep in over the instep. Again, the sense of dampness dissipated somewhat after walking for a while in dry conditions again. When I took them off, they were wet in the toe box and damp underneath the insoles - the insoles were dry, but when I took them out the bottom inside of the boot was noticeably damp. (Stock insoles.) I think water gets in too easily around the stitching, but OTOH that same stitching allows a path for evaporation. The Gore-Tex bootie ought to be doing a better job of keeping outside water off my feet though.

I agree with another reviewer, the midsole seems a bit skimpy. I bought replacement insoles for these boots, but when I took the stock insoles out I was surprised at how substantial they were. Hard plastic arch supports, with springy rubber inserts for the heel and ball and a deep heel cup. I still think my replacement insoles will be better. The vibram OUTsole is good and robust. But I think the midsole could have been beefier and should offer more support - the better than average stock insoles seem to be there to make up for some deficiency in the midsole department. Perhaps the wedge sole quarry would offer better midsole support.

I still haven't broken them in. They are good boots, but I think there are less expensive brands that might offer similar performance. These are not as comfortable or high quality as some Danners I have owned in the past.

Comments about Quarry USA 8" Distressed Brown:

I bought a pair of these at the Sportmans warehouse. I was happy to see they were assembled in the USA, the quality of the craftmanship really showed over the chinese ones. However, I think the quality of the leather used is very poor. I work on a railroad and that is probably one of the toughest enviornments for footwear. I hit the top of my toe on the rail and a "chip" came out of the leather, imagine like a particle board. The leather is very dry, and the break in period is quite painful. I used some mink oil to soften them up but it still didn't do any good. My feet are really tore up, I have blisters, cuts and calouses. I had very hight hopes for these boots, especially considering the price; but I am highly dissapointed. I can't even wear them. These boots are also extremely hot, my feet were soaking wet. I work in the desert so the temps are over 100 now. These boots are not good at all in high temps. May be better suited for indoor use if you can make it through the break in period.

Comments about Quarry USA 8" Distressed Brown:

Nice boots if you work on soft ground or not on your feet all the time.

The second rate Gore Tex is not great. This is the second pair of boots with the product and I have thrown out both. The water proofing works fine but they don't breath.

Danner also went cheap on the mid sole, the insole is the only cushioning. Danner sells other boots with a much better mid sole.

I should have not been cheap and went with a better pair.

Comments about Quarry USA 8" Distressed Brown:

Very good quality built boots. I am a railroad engineer and couldn't be happier with these boots. I like them so much I have ordered another pair. The only thing I would like to see with these boots is to use the leather off of the Bull Run boots on these. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing. Keep up the good work and thanks for making these in the USA.
