Overview

We borrowed the lightweight, agile Trailguard platform from our hiking boots to engineer this work boot to be nimble and tough from the ground up. This new last is designed to cup your heel for a secure fit while offering a little more room in the toe box to accommodate feet that are carrying heavy loads. It also comes with a dual density EVA midsole for extra shock absorption and comfort. The oil and slip resistant outsole have a low profile 90 degree heel making it versatile enough for indoor and outdoor work. For really tough jobs it has an abrasion-resistant heel cap, an all-leather upper, a non-metallic safety toe and a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® liner.

How it Fits

The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toebox allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

These boots (at least the pair I recieved) are superior in comfort to all the other brands I have tried in in a store, and I tried on many of the big name brands. (The toe box issue in some other reviews must be a quslity assurance issue) They do not feel heavy on your feet at all, while still providing great support. Functionally, these are perfect for anyone who needs a tough work boot which is also comfortable enough to do a lot of walking in. I work on excavations and foundations, so I am constantly working in arguably the worst conditions. On top of that, I commute to work so my boots have seen a lot if use- and a little abuse. Overall these boots have held up very well for the 8 months I have been wearing them (about 10 to 12 hours per day, 6 days a week. And they even look good beat up.

Now my only real gripe with this boot is that its described as 100% waterproof and breathable. For whatever reason, the waterproofing on my boots began to fail after about 5 months of use, and they had only gotten wet a handful of times prior. Ever since then, the slightest bit of moisture under my feet would result in damp socks, and it although I never had issues of breathability on hot days, once my feet got wet, they would not dry out, no matter how slight the dampness. I have since fixed the waterproofing issue with a silicone spray, but for months this was a nuissance. For the price, I should not have needed to do this kind of maintanance after only 5 months.

I put the 8 inch vicious composite toe boot on and thought it was comfortable. However the right side comp toe plate was digging into the top of my foot. I called and talked to a Danner service rep who was helpful. To return a pair of boots they have to be in perfect condition but they do pay for the shipping. Which is nice but you're looking at some time before you get your money back. After you order them online you have to wait for them to show up, then if you don't like them, make arrangements to send them back, wait till they travel back to Danner, give them 2 days to review them, then "if" the review goes well they start to return your money which could take another 4 or so days. Total tally of time 2-3 weeks. I'm very disappointed but it gets even worse. I decided to buy two pairs of the 4 inch vicious judging by how they 8 inch were comfortable and the 4 inch were on sale. Well I bumped up the size by one half to fix the comp toe digging in problem. The 4 inch are beyond uncomfortable and they squeak as I walk. It's gonna be up to Danners review of my boots if I get my money back for the used squeaky, uncomfortable shoes I have. As It sits, I won't be waring Danner boots ever and this whole thing has tied up over 300 dollars of my money for weeks now. Looking back, I would never do this again.

Comments about Vicious 8" Brown NMT:

I use my boots for road construction and on them 10+ Hrs a day. They are very comfortable and no foot fatigue. The safety toe has enough room for men with big feet. The only bad thing is that they need a thicker sole, but do love the boot.

Comments about Vicious 8" Brown NMT:

I work in the trades as a plumber and these are the best boots I've ever owned they are warm but breathable and great for all seasons. They are so comfortable and the safety toe isn't like steel toe so if your crouched over it doesn't dig into your foot with the plate. Either way super comfortable and best boots.

Comments about Vicious 8" Brown NMT:

This boot is good, but could use a bigger toe room like the Timberland Pro Titan. Overall for the quality of the boot is fair.
