Product Details

Overview

We've taken our typical Danner boot and completely overhauled it to take out any and all extra weight without neglecting comfort and performance. This upper is completely synthetic for superior weight savings with the added benefit of an ultra-fast dry time. Speed lacing and a 3-layer comfort system work together to create a snug, comfortable fit. Most boots in this weight category have a composite rubber outsole but the Tachyon features a true rubber outsole for superior abrasion resistance and traction.

How it Fits

The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toebox allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

An Unconventional Boot

By Not so Salty Sam

Pros

  • Dries quickly
  • Great flex
  • Incredibly Lightweight
  • Memory Foam Insole

Cons

  • Ankle Support
  • Flat Footbed

Best Uses

  • PT
  • Running
  • Workwear

First thing I noticed out of the box was how light these boots felt. The box literally felt empty. Initial notes: These are definitely a purpose-built featherweight boot. Great care has been given to minimize weight as much as possible, given Nylon construction throughout and minimal padding on the boot upper. This gives the boot an odd (read: different) feel, as the material flexes and the boot can be cinched tight exactly where you need it. Many other boots are very sturdy, and getting them to fit without soaking/drying can be tough. Not so with the Tachyons. The flexibility of the material gives an almost barefoot feeling, and the light weight of the boot contributes to this. The footbed has a memory foam type insole which provides pretty good cushion. I will run with it for a while, but will likely end up replacing it with something with a little more cushioning. The rough-out material is great for me; less time spent polishing, and I don't feel bad about beating up on the boot.

I bought this boot because I was looking to get a lightweight, supportive boot good for running and PT with light trail duty that I could also use for everyday wear. I had previously run a pair of Altama LiteSpeeds and the issued Bates Durashocks as well as some Acadias. I loved my Altamas, but the quality left me wishing for something sturdier. These aren't the most durable of boots; however, my experience with the Acadias has me putting my faith in Danner. I tried a friend's Nike SFB's, but Nike shoes have never fit my feet well. These were a much better fit for my footstrike pattern. These should be considered minimalist running boots due to the thinner construction, and I highly recommend a gradual transition from normal running shoes to these.

Initial concerns: The sole seems glued on. No stitching is evident. I will keep my eye on this and have a bottle of shoe goo ready just in case. Literally no ankle support. The cuff/sleeve of the boot is made of nylon and a seatbelt-type webbing. Lack of cushioning for running on pavement. This can be remedied with a good insole.

All in all, I'm very happy with the boot. It is an unconventional design that addresses a need that has only been filled by a few manufacturers and I look forward to using these boots for an extended period of time.

TL;DR: Good comfort, lightweight, everyday wear. Not for serious trail duty or rucks.

I wear mine on patrol, and they are hands down the lightest and most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Danner hit the nail on the head with this one. These have become my primary and only patrol/training boots. If you don't have a pair, get one, or get 2 or 3. I have had a couple pair of boots from Danner and they are always comfortable, but usually heavy. I broke my leg and messed my ankle a little over a year ago and can't wear heavy boots since. I've gone through 5 or 6 different "light" boots. These are the best. They are lighter than my running shoes, and just as comfortable.

    Almost Feels Barefoot

There boots are extremely light. When I got the box in the mail it almost felt like it was empty. You almost feel barefoot wearing them and it does take a little getting used to. I only wear these boots when I'm doing training or out on rural assignments. The color of the boots contrast a lot with my uniform though and they are not as dark as leather boots which can look a bit weird. There is also no shine which is a plus and minus. Plus because I hate taking leather boots that I spent time shining into the field and having them get torn up, a negative because it doesn't have a professional look like leather boots do. The boots are very sturdy and offer great ankle support. They also required very little break in.

    Awesome Boots!

    • Speed laces

    Cons

I've only had these boots a few days, but I've worn them on Patrol and they are awesome. My equivelent would be to Bates Lites, however I feel that these are a better boot. They are a little "flimsy" feeling do to the super light weight, but once you get them on and tie them up, they're very comfortable, and the side-holes let your feet breathe.

My complaints: Flat foot bed, I wish Danner would put at least SOME arch support in their boots.

I also wish the very top section of the top would be slightly padded and thicker like the Bates Lites (near the top of the tongue).

Overall, I'm impressed with these boots, and would easily buy them again. I love my Acadia's, but at least for me, the Tachyon's need to be a 1/2 size smaller.

    Great Patrol boot!

    • Gets dirty easy
    • Little support

    Best Uses

    • Everyday Duty Wear

Use this product on duty (leo) very light weight, easy to put on, breathable. The bad is that it gets dirty very quick due to the materials and will not keep your feet dry so you have to keep in mind to wear these boots on a somewhat dry day. Overall its a great summer/spring boot that is perfect if you need to get around with little effort.
