I purchased a cheap pair of law enforcement boots for riding my Harley around town. They were actually more comfortable than "motorcycle boots" and I decided to get serious and buy my first pair of Danners. I looked through the online reviews and decided that this was the pair for me. I headed down to my local Danner store in Renton, Washington and found a pair to try on. From the moment I put them on my feet and zipped them up they felt comfortable. These boots were so comfortable I knew that a break in period would not be required. Here is what I like about the boots from the perspective of a motorcyclist/biker: 1) The leather on the left boot is sturdy yet soft enough to handle shifting gears on my bike 2) The 8-inch height provides ankle stability and protection 3) The side zipper makes it easy for on and off (even with the speed lacing feature on the shaft of the boot) 4) The boots are light weight 5) The lining is comfortable enough to keep you warm yet breathe through out the day (think of asphalt, freeways, stop and go traffic, etc.) 6) The leather is sturdy yet light and most of all 7) So doggone comfortable that you want to wear them all day and even to bed!! This is my first pair of Danner boots and "I'll bet my boots" that I will be a repeat Danner customer. You've made a believer in me. Also, for those of you who do ride, lace up boots do have an advantage: If you ever go down and injure your foot, the EMT or whoever helps you can remove a boot like this by cutting the laces off and pulling the boot off with ease compared to having to struggle to pull the boot off as in the case with cowboy or engineer boots.

My first and last pair of Danners. The boot itself appears to be well constructed however not comfortable even while sitting in the squad car. I have owned this boot for 5 months and still does not feel like they are broke in. The sole of the boot has no padding and sounds like I am wearing high heal shoes when walking down a hallway. Very disappointed in the comfort.

Comments about Striker Torrent Side-Zip 8" Black Leather:

I've been ordering Danner boots since 2006. They have great customers service and a great return policy. I highly recommend the Torrents. I've had no issues whatsoever. I've had my current pair since December of 2012. Being in law enforcement, they've been exposed to the all the elements. Great in the heat (100 degrees) and dry in the winter. I hope the Torrents will be around for a very long time!

Comments about Striker Torrent Side-Zip 8" Black Leather:

I use to have Strikers 2 with side zipper, they were very comfortable and light. However, the Achilles heel of those boots were weak sole. It began falling apart within the first month. I tried Torrent boots and I like them a lot. I'm on my third year and the sole still has half of the tread left. They are slightly nosier than the Strikers 2 (when you approaching a violator on the traffic stop). Wearing them for over 10 hours a day and feel comfortable every moment. The Gore Tex material still doing its job.

I would definitely recommend this boots to anyone. Well worth it.

Comments about Striker Torrent Side-Zip 8" Black Leather:

This is the second pair of these boots that I've had. The first pair lasted me two years and would have gone longer, but I just wanted a new pair. I'm 6'00" and weigh about 325. These boots stood up well under me.

Comments about Striker Torrent Side-Zip 8" Black Leather:

Preliminary review. - Striker Torrent All leather 8 inch Side zip - so far so good. I've had the Danner Arcadia, and Fort Lewis, for 25 years. For field work they are Outstanding. I say this to let you know I know my Danners. I switched assignments and am now in a custodial setting having to walk on a concrete slab all day long. When I say all day, according to my FItBit Im averaging 5 miles per shift on concrete. The Arcadia and Fort Lewis platforms are not meant for standing and walking on such an unforgiving surface. Since I love my Danners, I sent them backs and had them recrafted and stretched, but my feet were still killing me by the end of the day.

Striker Torrent: It was between the Striker Torrent and Striker EMS. Both boots looked great, but the Torrent had better reviews, and thus far I agree. The Torrent is much lighter than its Big Brother - Arcadia and Fort Lewis. Albeit the differences in ounces may not seem like much on paper, but at the end of the day it all adds up. Also, the Torrent Platform is clearly more forging than that of its Big Brother. The Torrent platform is softer, more pliable, and is turning out to be its greatest strength.

CON: Its doesn't take a shine like its Big Brother. Nor do they have the elegant look of the Arcadia. Its like going from dress boots to work boots. As much as I put my Arcadia's & Fort L's through their paces - no pun intended - I was able to shine them up to a lever that passed Class A uniform inspection. As much as I've tired, the Torrents simply wont shine as bright. So if there' any CON, at least at this point, that's it.

Lastly: There's nothing less forgiving on a boot (or anything of quality) than TIME. We'll see how these boots fare as time takes its toll. I'll update my review as needed.
