Product Details

Overview

The feature-rich, USA-made Grouse™ is made for comfort in all conditions. GORE-TEX® lining provides breathable, waterproof protection and the full-grain leather and Cordura® upper combined with Danner’s famous stitchdown construction gives rugged durability and a wide platform for stability. The Danner® Bob® outsole, known as one of the world’s best hunting outsoles, tracks steadily in the snow and mud while continuously self-cleaning.

How it Fits

The 650 last offers a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit. Boots on this last tend to fit those with a more narrow foot better than those with a wider foot. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) in this style.

I bough a pair in 1998 and I'm still wearing them in bow season, small game season and deer season. As the name implies, these are truely Grouse Boots. I love the rounded lugs on the sole as I hunt the grouse woods (steep, uneaven and often rocky terrain). Grip on rocks and logs is excellent, much better than any other lug design I've worn. My boots felt like sneakers on my feet since day one. All day hunts, no problem. My feet feel fine at the end of the day ( I do use the included orthotic inserts). GoreTex keep my feet dry even in dew soaked meadows (finally starting to leak a little last season). No insulation, but socks like smartwool allow me to wear them except on those windy 0-10 degree days or while sitting all day below freezing. I was initially concerned with the price but I got over that after the first season. I have thrown away countless $100 bills on boots that fell apart in one or two years. Buy these boots and in ten years you will have saved $400-$500 over the replacement costs of lesser boots. These are the best boots you can buy if you hunt like I do.

I've had these boots about 18 months and I use them on 12-14 days a year. A few days of pheasant hunting, about a week of chukar hunting in Eastern Oregon, a few odd days of work. I probably have 20 days on them. I was proud I invested in these boots - comfortable, good traction, dry, perfect for going up and down the canyons chasing birds. I expected to wear them a long time.

But last week I took them out in the rain, and then hunting all day in a couple inches of early season snow. When I got home I saw that the lug outsole is separating at the toe on both boots. This is the first time I've had this problem on any boot. I called Danner, and they were nice, but told me that the warranty expired 6 months ago and I need to have them resole and recondition the boots.

These boots were a big purchase for me and I've ended up very disappointed. I can't believe my Danners are starting to fall apart while my buddies keep racking up miles on their cheaper Chinese boots. These will be my first and last pair of Danners.

Comments about Grouse 8" Brown:

GREAT BOOT FOR UPLAND HUNTING -

THE THING I LOVE THE MOST IS THE SOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THESE BOOTS - I AM SO TIRED OF CLEANING MUD / CLAY ECT OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF A WAFFLE TYPE BOOT SOLES - THEY DO NOT PICK UP ALL THE EXTRA WEIGHT OF THE MUD OR CLAY LIKE WAFFLE SOLE BOOTS DO WHEN WALKING IN THE FIELD

THEY OFFER MORE TRACTION THAN A FLAT BOTTOM BOOT

PEOPLE THAT WALK AROUND MUD OR CLAY SOILS WILL LOVE THE FEEL OF THESE BOOTS AND ESPECIALLY THE CLEAN UP ON THE BOTTOM OF THESE EASY TO CLEAN BOOT SOLES

Comments about Grouse 8" Brown:

Yes, you read that right. My boots were made and put into service in 1990. I have been hunting and working on the farm since that time. I hunt 50+ days a year in the Blue Ridge Mountains in very rugged terrain. I have replaced the strings 5 times and keep the leather well oiled and the seams waxed. You will NEVER EVER find a boot or shoe that could match this boot for ruggedness.

    Comments about Grouse 8" Brown:

Really disappointed in the soles and overall wear of the boot. All the "knobs" of the sole fell of leaving holes in the bottom of the shoe and no traction after only two hunting seasons. Stay away if you do anything other than walk to a tree stand.
