Overview

We took the proven performance of our most comfortable military hiker and blended it with the technical design of Optifade™ Open Country camo to create one of the most appealing hunting boots in our line. The durable nubuck leather and abrasion resistant rubber rand will stand up to unforgiving terrain. The footbed, midsole and integrated polypropylene board combine cushioned support and protected stability to carry you high in the alpine country without hot spots. Our unique Gavre outsole is designed specifically to stand up to the demands of side hilling. And regardless of the conditions, the waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX liner will keep feet dry and comfortable.

How it Fits

The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toebox allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

Best Uses

I rarely write reviews, but decided these boots were worth the time to rave about. I hunted elk with a bow in northern New Mexico for 7 days, covering about 70 miles with a 40 pound pack. The terrain varied, but included lots of steep stuff. The boots performed better than I expected. Great support; Comfortable right out of the box; No blisters; Kept my feet dry during several days of rain; Kept me smiling mile after mile; Fit seemed pretty true. I normally wear an 11.5 and that is what I ordered.

I ordered these boots for archery season this year and have been thoroughly impressed. The lacing system accommodates a good range of widths (I have a slightly narrower foot than average) and holds both the heel and forefoot firmly in place. Very comfortable right out of the box, good flexibility but also has great ankle and midsole support for carrying heavy loads or going up steep terrain. As an hunting outfitter working in the footwear department, I have tried many great boots have hold them to a very high standard, these Gilas definitely pass with flying colors, five stars. Size was fairly true to size, seemed to run slightly smaller than some other Danners like the Mt. defiance and pronghorns. They fit fine with a light wight mid-cushion sock, however, if you like wearing thicker heavy-cushion socks in your hunting boots I would go up a half size.

I took a chance and bought these boots online without trying them on. What caught my attention was the anatomical shape of the sole. After having put countless miles on them last year in the Colorado Rockies I can honestly say these are the best hunting boots I've ever walked in. I have all kinds of foot and ankle problems from spending the last 18 years in the Marine Corps as an infantryman, and these are the only boots I've ever put a lot of miles on that haven't caused blisters, bunion pain, or foot fatigue. I'm absolutely impressed and will be buying extra pairs.
