Overview

The USA-made Mountain Light™ II hiking boot is legendary for its unmatched quality, durability and support. GORE-TEX® lining provides waterproof protection. The Vibram® Kletterlift outsole offers lightweight comfort as well as superb shock absorption and guarantees great traction and stability on both wet and dry surfaces. Danner’s famous stitchdown construction provides a wider platform for stability and the lace-to-toe system provides a secure fit.

How it Fits

The 650 last offers a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit. Boots on this last tend to fit those with a more narrow foot better than those with a wider foot. This ensures a snug fit for terrain and activities that demand support and stability. If you do have a wider foot, we recommend ordering an "EE" (wide) in this style.

There is no better quality boot made. I own 6 pair of Danner boots and the only one problem I have with all of my Danner boots is that they are too narrow. The Mountain Light II black is no exception. On the Brannock foot scale I measure at a "D" in width but the "EE" in this boot is too narrow and measures about a "B". To have a proper fit with this boot I would need a "4E" in occordence with the Brannock foot scale. So they are very narrow. This is the same as with the Patrol 6" boot which I have. The leather does stretch, so it does adjust but the leather stretches beyond the sole.

This boot does take some break in, as with any good quality boot. The main issue I had during break in was the top rim of the back of the boot. It rubbed on my achilles tendons above my heal on both legs causing blisters (picture below). I learned that the top two laces needed to be tight so the boot does not slip up and down. I also found that wearing a 10 inch sock and folding them down twice so that there were three layers where I was getting a blister. I also used Mole skin which is a necceity to carry with any new boot.

I got a blister on my right foot's second toe from the Gortex liner bunching up over my toes. The Gortex liner in Danner boots have caused me issues in the past too. I had to send back a pair of boots in the past due to the liner not being sewn in properly. It bunched up over my toes too.

I wish that Danner boots allowed for a insole but I guess they are made to fit like a glove as is. I replace all my Danner boots strings with paracord for a fail safe string. It is easy to get strings in any color this way too.

This boot is a very good boot. I would highly recommend it to a friend and have numerous times. Just make sure it fits properly and is not too narrow for your foot. There is no better high quality boot then Danner.

Danners customer service it awesome!

Thanks Danner, but can we get you to make a wider boot...We are Americans not Europeans.

The style of tis boot looks wonderful, but for me, they were very uncomfortable due to the unconventional design of the tongue. The tongue laps over from one side causing a bunching up of material directly on top of your instep, Danner's customer service did rectify my problem by sending me a comparable style which are much more comfortable

Comments about Danner Mountain Light II Black Hiking Boots:

Before i purchase a pair of Mountain Light II, I've gone through about half a dozen sites containing reviews and most of them are 50/50 about this particular model. A lot of the said "reviews" can only be taken with a grain of salt (yes, you know what i'm talking about)... only a few seemed authentic.

Anyhow, I went out to purchased a pair despite of what i've read. The boots are bought in an outdoor outlet so i got to try them out before making any final decision. Initial impression was good; detail craftsmanship, high quality leather and metal wear. Test walking in the shop revealed the first problem that everyone had brought up... the tongue of the shoe did not fold well, the leather on the top bites into the top of your foot. HERE'S THE REMEDY; before tying your shoe lace, fold the leather in PROPERLY, make sure the creases are SINGLE fold and not crumpled together. This way the top of your foot won't hurt so much in the breaking in process. I'm not sure if the fold will hold over time but much better than those folks who expects the leather to fold themselves... TRY IT, it only takes 1 minute of your time.

The second problem is also a popular one amongst those who REALLY wore the boots. I think... oh say EVERYONE on this planet have achilles tendon so why did DANNER design a 5 inch boot with NO CURVE on the back of the boot? Testing them in the outlet was fine but once i left the place and went shopping in them for the next 3 hours... my achilles were showing signs of pain... and this is just from walking around the mall, can you imagine what it'll do hiking in them for 6 hours? Adding a slight curve behind the boot will ease the pain for sure... i don't expect it to be a cure because this IS a flaw in all 5 inch boot as the back of the boot will indefinitely come in contact with the achilles tendon.

I think you guys craft very good products but PLEASE listen to your customers! Having pride is one thing, too much will destroy you. Make the changes, DANNER!

Comments about Danner Mountain Light II Black Hiking Boots:

It just doesn't get better. I bought a pair of Mountain Lite II hiking boots and the first time I put them I wore them for around 6 hours and took a 10 mile hike. To my great surprise these boots required no break-in - I had no blisters nor were my feet uncomfortable at any time. I'm so pleased that I'll be ordering another pair of Danner's for hiking and will skip the wondering if I made the right choice. Thank you Danner for keeping American Made quality alive.

Comments about Danner Mountain Light II Black Hiking Boots:

It is so hard to find a true welted construction hiking boot these days, let alone one made in America. These are better than anything else I've tried or felt in 25 years, and they are made to last, being fully serviceable. What a bargain at [$] (although mine were [$]). In twenty years when I need another pair, I'll be back. I love them.
