Details

Some traditions are worth passing on. Some are worth perfecting.

We all walk a fine line between change for the sake of new versus change because it creates something better. As we developed the fourth generation Pronghorn, we looked back at the previous two decades of our most iconic boot. We extracted the best parts from each generation and created the new Pronghorn.

A perfect fit

Drawing inspiration from the original Pronghorn’s great fit, we redesigned the last, the mold around which the entire boot is constructed, to provide a more comfortable, athletic fit. We widened up the toe box and narrowed the heel, allowing the ball of the foot to rest comfortably while locking the heel of the foot firmly in place.

Streamlined design

The second generation Pronghorn introduced a streamlined design, removing both weight and bulk from the original. We dissected each component again, removed unnecessary material from the upper, and developed a lower profile, lighter weight platform that provides better comfort and support.

Rugged outsole

As the Pronghorn grew in popularity, it began making its way into more versatile and demanding conditions. In response, the third generation featured an extremely rugged outsole designed for diverse terrain. We evolved this outsole to provide better grip and fit seamlessly into the new Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.

Generation four

In addition to drawing inspiration from the past three generations, we enhanced the fourth generation based on feedback we received throughout the years. We softened up the collar, constructed the footbed of lighter weight, more breathable material, and added pull loops and semi-locking laces for a secure fit.
Full-Grain Leather & 1000 Denier Nylon Upper
Made from a combination of our premium full-grain leather and 1000 Denier nylon, this upper is extremely durable.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Speed Lace System
Our special hardware allows you to tighten from toe to top with one swift tug for a secure, tight fit.
360° Snake Guard
We use a flexible snake protection fabric in between the liner and exterior of the boot to give you complete snake protection from the bottom of your foot to the top of the boot.
Pronghorn Outsole
This fourth generation outsole is extremely rugged and responds well in diverse terrain. It provides better grip and fits seamlessly into the Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.
TERRA FORCE Platform
Provides exceptional support and stability without the traditional weight.
How It Fits
This athletic fit of our DPH-1 last offers great heel capture and an anatomical forefoot that gives more room in the toe box. Fits true to size.

I work in Northern Canada prospecting for work. Every year I demolish a pair of boots (sometimes two) due to walking 8+ hours a day from May to November. I walk grid-lines so I go through rock, swamp, alders and forest. The Pronghorn is the first boot that has survived a season and is still going strong. My feet are dry and comfortable by the end of the day. The high cut (17") of the boot means I can go through the near ubiquitous swamps of Northern Canada without getting wet. The snake-proofing/durability also means it has not been punctured by pongi sticks like most rubber boots I wear. My only real complaint is that you have to be mindful of wet rock outcrop and deadfall (a better oil slick/slip tread would be nice). Also, I would prefer if this came with a steel toe option so I don't have to change boots to visit drills/mine sites. This is a must buy if you plan on any serious wilderness work in Canada and I will gladly remain a Danner customer.

To whom it may concern,
I have purchased several pairs of your snake boots over the last few years. I have worn them with pride and told the many people that asked about them that were Danners. I told them they were the best boots I had ever had.
The first pair I wore almost daily while cutting brush and doing the daily tasks associated with running a goat rental company. They were comfortable and held my ankles while I was running on uneven ground chasing goats and preventing catastrophes. I even had a pair of your boots on when I was on Oregon Field Guide a few years ago.
You could imagine my joy when you came out with the side zip because it meant I didn't have to untie my boots when they were covered in poison oak. Which incidentally is most of the summer and fall.
At first I was thrilled, who wouldn't be, I had my dream boots on and I was ready to kick some butt.
In fact we got two pairs, because my husband needed these boots too. Almost immediately there were red flags. The zipper was so tiny and frail, I've worn skirts with stronger zippers.
Because of the break between the leather and fabric in the heel it created a bunch point that eventually busted through both pairs in the exact same spot. The sides on the ankle of the boot were also forced out, causing the zipper to stress and eventually break. They weren't waterproof, or water resistant. In fact I was wondering if they were made out of sponges? Even dew on a grassy half eaten pasture was enough to result in wet socks or a puddle in the bottom of our boots.
Well we figured that since it was within the warranty we would just exchange them and go on with our lives.
However the new pairs of boots began breaking down in the same way.
We've gone through 4 pairs in less that 16mos and now we have
The last straw was the zipper busting open right before I had to cut down a wall of poison oak.
Thanks for nothing Danner!

Most comfortable pair of boots that I own!

    By Cheeseman

    from Leesburg, Ga.

Comments about Pronghorn Snake Boot Side-Zip 17" Brown:

I simply wanted a high quality pair of boots that I could wear to the farm just in case that I encountered a snake. Well, after research and browsing the internet I accidentally came across a pair of Danner boots at an outdoor store and tried them on and was sold that these were everything I had research and a little more!

Eight years later, same quality product

    By Kenny

Comments about Pronghorn Snake Boot Side-Zip 17" Brown:

This is my second pair in last 8 years. Original pair worn so much the goretex finally broke down and boots no longer waterproof. That is why I bought another pair. The originals are still fit to wear after 8 years of hard use. I am absolutely satisfied with quality. Best hunting boots I have ever worn and well worth the money. Nothing is more imortant to hunting experience than foot comfort when walking long distances over various terrain. Danger prohorn series boots cannot be beat! Thank you Danner for the best boots in the business.
