Quick Overview

We learned from our elders. We listened to our peers. And we crafted the fourth generation Pronghorn - a boot that we are confident will continue the tradition we know and love.
Details

Some traditions are worth passing on. Some are worth perfecting.

We all walk a fine line between change for the sake of new versus change because it creates something better. As we developed the fourth generation Pronghorn, we looked back at the previous two decades of our most iconic boot. We extracted the best parts from each generation and created the new Pronghorn.

A perfect fit

Drawing inspiration from the original Pronghorn’s great fit, we redesigned the last, the mold around which the entire boot is constructed, to provide a more comfortable, athletic fit. We widened up the toe box and narrowed the heel, allowing the ball of the foot to rest comfortably while locking the heel of the foot firmly in place.

Streamlined design

The second generation Pronghorn introduced a streamlined design, removing both weight and bulk from the original. We dissected each component again, removed unnecessary material from the upper, and developed a lower profile, lighter weight platform that provides better comfort and support.

Rugged outsole

As the Pronghorn grew in popularity, it began making its way into more versatile and demanding conditions. In response, the third generation featured an extremely rugged outsole designed for diverse terrain. We evolved this outsole to provide better grip and fit seamlessly into the new Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.

Generation four

In addition to drawing inspiration from the past three generations, we enhanced the fourth generation based on feedback we received throughout the years. We softened up the collar, constructed the footbed of lighter weight, more breathable material, and added pull loops and semi-locking laces for a secure fit.
CamoHide™ Leather & 1000 Denier Nylon Upper
This upper is made from a full-grain leather that has been struck through with marbling that we call CamoHide. Because it is struck through the camo marbling will not fade or rub off.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Realtree® Xtra® Green Camo
Realtree Xtra Green pattern is designed to blend with habitats in all variations of green, especially those found in early fall and mid-to-late spring.
Pronghorn Outsole
This fourth generation outsole is extremely rugged and responds well in diverse terrain. It provides better grip and fits seamlessly into the Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.
TERRA FORCE Platform
Provides exceptional support and stability without the traditional weight.
Fourth Generation
We softened up the collar, constructed the footbed of lighter weight, more breathable material, and added pull loops and semi-locking laces for a secure fit.
How It Fits
This athletic fit of our DPH-1 last offers great heel capture and an anatomical forefoot that gives more room in the toe box. Fits true to size.

My Dad and I just got back from elk hunting in the Northside Unit outside of John Day, OR. The USFS closes all but three roads in the area we hunt during hunting season, so I knew my new Danner Pronghorns were going to get a workout. Judging by our maps, I put about seven miles on the boots opening day. Not bad for only the second time putting them on. I am happy to say that I never even thought about my feet afterwards! They had plenty of traction, support, and comfort that I just flat didn't notice them during the hunt. To me, that is a perfect boot!

The next day, I was blessed to get my first bull elk ever. I have taken cows before, but this was my first bull. My Dad and I walked cross country for around 2.5 miles and were just sitting down at the edge of a clearing. I didn't even have the chance to get comfortable when a raghorn walked out of the trees in front of us. An awkward, cross-body shot from the sitting position launched a .270 WSM bullet though his heart. He made it maybe 50 yards before he fell. As luck would have it, he fell pretty much on a closed gravel road.

We were able to quarter out the elk and get it hung without too much drama, then Dad back-tracked to the truck and I walked the gravel road to see if it would be flat enough for our game cart. According to the map, I had about three miles to go before I could get to a spot that Dad could drive. I grabbed the head and started walking. The road was half uphill and half downhill. Luckily, all but 100 yards or so of the uphill was no steeper than a railroad grade; perfect for the game cart. I met up with Dad and started the 3 mile walk back in. By the time we got back to the elk, it was very dark and snowing. (Up until then, the weather was sunny and cold.) On the walk back out, I finally noticed that my feet were starting to hurt. By the time we got back to the truck, everything hurt! I honestly think my feet would have been hurting in any boot. I really think the pain was from walking fast on that gravel road, letting my feet slam down with every step.

The amazing part about it was after 16 hours of being on my feet with my boots on and 11 miles (6 of which I was packing out an elk), I had no pain the next day. I was able to lace up my boots and start hunting again (albeit without my rifle, Dad still had a tag to fill). I think that says a lot about Danner's Pronghorns! I couldn't be happier with them.

I replaced my Danner Frontier GTX with these because my Frontier boots were not re-craftable. The Pronghorn is not even close to being a good a fit or as comfortable as my Frontiers.
I find myself leaving the Pronghorns and wearing my old Frontiers.
My mistake was thinking that because the Frontier and the Pronghorn were close in price they would be a similar quality.
Probably going to try a totally different boot or attempt to find out what current boot is similar to the Frontier.

Pronghorn Uninsulated Hunting Boot

By Ski

from Northern Wisconsin

Comments about Danner Pronghorn 8" Realtree Xtra Green:

I bought my pair of camo 8 inch high Pronghorn un-insulated boots four years ago, Mainly for use scouting woods, outdoor work, and during snow removal work as they were waterproof. I have to say that I have no complaints, and they are still holding up and waterproof. I have even ended up using them a lot with good wool socks for snowmobiling. Keep in mind that my feet run hot and I ride actively. My toes may have gotten cool a time or two but not overly sweaty which is much worse in my opinion. I use them a lot out in the snow here in Wisconsin. I have found them a bit hot for summer use. They could be more breathable but then they probably wouldn't be as good for my uses. My pair is a slightly older style than you see online now. I needed a wide width; that's the main reason I ordered online. Now I'm hooked, as it saves me time and shipping is free. They have been extremely durable and even new they were pretty comfortable. Now, broke in, they are even better.

Comments about Danner Pronghorn 8" Realtree Xtra Green:

I wanted a good and durable hunting boot but soon after using my proghorns I noticed a mild squeak. One year later and the squeak is worse. I can be heard from at least 100yds away while walking in them. These are not the boots for ealy morning walks to a trrestand or any type of spot and stalk hunt.
