Quick Overview

We learned from our elders. We listened to our peers. And we crafted the fourth generation Pronghorn - a boot that we are confident will continue the tradition we know and love.
Details

Some traditions are worth passing on. Some are worth perfecting.

We all walk a fine line between change for the sake of new versus change because it creates something better. As we developed the fourth generation Pronghorn, we looked back at the previous two decades of our most iconic boot. We extracted the best parts from each generation and created the new Pronghorn.

A perfect fit

Drawing inspiration from the original Pronghorn’s great fit, we redesigned the last, the mold around which the entire boot is constructed, to provide a more comfortable, athletic fit. We widened up the toe box and narrowed the heel, allowing the ball of the foot to rest comfortably while locking the heel of the foot firmly in place.

Streamlined design

The second generation Pronghorn introduced a streamlined design, removing both weight and bulk from the original. We dissected each component again, removed unnecessary material from the upper, and developed a lower profile, lighter weight platform that provides better comfort and support.

Rugged outsole

As the Pronghorn grew in popularity, it began making its way into more versatile and demanding conditions. In response, the third generation featured an extremely rugged outsole designed for diverse terrain. We evolved this outsole to provide better grip and fit seamlessly into the new Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.

Generation four

In addition to drawing inspiration from the past three generations, we enhanced the fourth generation based on feedback we received throughout the years. We softened up the collar, constructed the footbed of lighter weight, more breathable material, and added pull loops and semi-locking laces for a secure fit.
CamoHide™ Leather Upper
This upper is made from a full-grain leather that has been struck through with marbling that we call CamoHide. Because it is struck through the camo marbling will not fade or rub off.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Pronghorn Outsole
This fourth generation outsole is extremely rugged and responds well in diverse terrain. It provides better grip and fits seamlessly into the Pronghorn’s streamlined, lower profile design.
TERRA FORCE Platform
Provides exceptional support and stability without the traditional weight.
Fourth Generation
We softened up the collar, constructed the footbed of lighter weight, more breathable material, and added pull loops and semi-locking laces for a secure fit.
How It Fits
This athletic fit of our DPH-1 last offers great heel capture and an anatomical forefoot that gives more room in the toe box. Fits true to size.

The leather is top quality on these boots, and I am very impressed. They are a bit stiff when you first start wearing them (what else do you expect from an all-leather boot?), but they break in wonderfully. They felt a little tight around the ankle at first, but that went away with use and now I can really crank down on the laces and they remain comfortable. Great ankle support, and I get very little heel lift with them laced up properly. I did find that I had to skip the between the second and third eyelet to prevent the the boot from putting pressure on the medial cuneiform, but I have to do this with all my boots and it is nothing new. The waterproofing is top notch, as is expected from a Gore-Tex certified product. Being as it is a GoreTex product, if they ever leak they will be replaced by either Danner or Gore-Tex. Being full-leather boots, they will require a bit of maintenance to prevent the leather from drying out. I recommend Montana Pitch Blend's conditioner. Apply it twice a year and these boots should last a very long time. The only thing I wish Danner would do with these is make them in the USA! I would be willing to pay a little extra for a quality product made at home. It would also be nice if the sole was replaceable (the out-sole is not fully stitched down), as I anticipate the out-sole will wear out long before the leather does. Otherwise, I highly recommend these boots. Well worth the money; I wear them every day.

I wore these on a long trek through the Adirondacks. Did 17.5 miles in on day with about 7000ft of elevation gain in the rain which turned to snow and ice. My feet were saturated with in the first hour and I could feel water coming I the boot. The goretex did nothing. i would not recommend these boots to anyone that intends to expose these boots to more than just dew covered grass.

Training for a 30 day elk hunt in CO & needed a pair of good boots. Researched many boots & decided to try the Danners. Best fit I have had in years. Very comfortable with good ankle support.

Don't be fooled

By Jared

Comments about Pronghorn 8" Brown All Leather:

I would like to address the comment by Paul. Your statement in regards to Danner replacing your boots if they ever leak is false. Now, to be fair, Danner will give you a discount of 30 to 40 percent towards a new pair. But, they will not replace them as I found out yesterday when the customer care representative told me so. Now, only to be fair to Danner, I must point out that I had the boots for over 5 years. However, due to a couple of deployments overseas with the Army I only wore them five times. Now, I don't know about you. But, I'm almost positive that most people would agree with me that if they only wore a pair of boots five times and they started leaking and destroying your first hunting trip in four years, regardless of how old they are. Well I think you get the point. Having said that I will still buy Danner boots, due to the fact that out of the box they are the best boots on the market. But, don't be fooled by comments like Paul's.
