Details

Engineered for optimal stability and superior traction in cold and rugged high-angle terrain

Constructed to emulate its name, the Mountain Assault features a durable waterproof Nubuck leather upper, a 360-degree abrasion-resistant rubber rand, a waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX extended comfort liner along with our Dynamic Response System that is engineered for optimal stability underfoot in cold environments and a Vibram Tsavo outsole for superior traction in rugged high-angle terrain.

Nubuck Leather Upper
Our top-grain leather is sanded on the outside to give it a slight nap with a velvet-like feel. This leather upper is extremely durable, while offering a shorter and more comfortable break-in period.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Abrasion Resistant Fully Wrapping Rand
An extra thick and tall rubber rand wraps the entire boot in 360° of protection for added abrasion resistance and durability in steep and rough terrain.
Vibram® Tsavo Outsole
Superior traction in rugged, high-angle terrain.
Dynamic Response System
Engineered for optimal stability, the unique framework allows for springboard return, even in cold environments, while the dual-density midsole provides superior shock absorption and durability.
How It Fits
The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toe box allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

I was worried about these boots when I received them. They seemed a bit too beefy for what I wanted. The first use was 35+ miles in 2 days and my feet were toast. What did I expect.

I now have about fifty miles on them and they are great! I got them just before archery season here in Montana. I have been using them while elk and bear hunting in the mountains and they have keep my feet dry all day. Great traction for the sidehilling and accending/deccending of steep terrain and plenty rugged for the scree fields.

I thought about getting the Full Curls but went with this leather option as these boots have the same last (same fit). This boot is a little taller and therefore it has longer laces. Really long laces.

I am a trad bowhunter and all of my gear needs to be silent. These boots do squeak a bit but I have not conditioned them yet. I think this will help with the noise. It's not loud but I notice it.

I will be happy using these boots for the rest of this season and many more. I also got a pair of Danner hiker light weight crew socks and they are now my favorites.

If you want a solid hunting boots thats a goat in the mountains and look nice enough to wear to weddings than get this boot. I am stoked on them!

I am a huge fan of Danner boots. As former Marine I swear by Danner tactical boots. I have 4 pairs of various Danner pronghorns. Danner wading boots. I only buy Danner. So I thought the Mountain Assult boot would be more than adequate for a week long Dall Sheep hunt in the Chugach Mountain range of Alaska. I was wrong. I have owned many pairs of traditional hiking boots for desert and mountain backpacking but rather than go back to those traditional brands, I opted to stay loyal to Danner. While the boot was fine during my training on Kansas and Missouri hills with a 50 lb pack, the boots failed in Alaska in two essential elements for a quality off trail mountain boot. First, once saturated with water, the leather boot loses all rigidity for side-hilling -- very easy to roll the foot and lose traction. Second, there is inadequate padding under the metal eyelets especially when wet. Tight laces are essential but the eyelets on these boots cause pain. From the infantry to hunting, boots are the most important piece of equipment and for me, these boots failed the Danner reputation and I would not recommend the boots for off-trail alpine hunting in Alaksa

Comments about Mountain Assault Boot 8" Canteen:

My wife bought these boots hunting in Alaska... really enough said with that however I was keen to see how they would handle the Australian outback and chasing Sambar deer in the high country.

Always a little intimidated spending so much $$$ with a clothing product but I was more than pleased. The shank is stiff and the boot is fairly rigid which alleviates an old foot injury from chasing a crook when I was a cop. Breaking them in was a breeze. I wore them in the office for a week and they were great. They are a tough big boot with weight so I put them to use on the treadmill training for the March / April rut and was pleased. I am looking at changing the laces out as they tend to slip even with a double knot. These boots have softened up really nicely and from all accounts they will last. My wife's pair are still going very strong and I expect these to do the same.

Great mountain boot

Comments about Mountain Assault Boot 8" Canteen:

I have used them auodad hunting a couple of times this year and have also used them on a late season elk hunt and they have held up well. They are not insulated so they can get a little chilly when glassing for long periods in real cold temps. I use a heavy wool sock in them and have had no problems, I think they will last quite a few seasons. Also buy one full size bigger than normal.
