Details

Hunt further. Hunt faster.

As we approached the design and development of an entirely new hunting boot, we kept one word in mind – endurance. We worked to build a boot that allows a hunter to hunt longer with less foot fatigue, hunt faster and quieter as they track their prey, and maintain the longevity and durability that we demand out of every product that bears the mark of Danner.

Athletic fit

Borrowing from some of our latest developments in hiking, we constructed the High Ground off of the DT4 last that provides a tighter heel pocket with a wider toe box, alongside a sleek and streamlined fit. This development allowed us to create a hunting boot with more flexibility and less weight.

The perfect balance

Creating a lightweight and flexible product is easy, but creating one that maintains the support and stability needed on rugged terrain is a whole different story. Utilizing a cement construction we were able to reduce the weight while still integrating an aggressive outsole that provides support and stability over a variety of terrain.

The mark of Danner

Before any product obtains the Danner stamp we ensure that it has been crafted to the highest standard. That is why we crafted the High Ground with an oiled nubuck leather, a 900 Denier nylon, and premium components like a GORE-TEX liner - ensuring that it lives up to the durability demanded from the Danner name.
Oiled Nubuck & 900 Denier Polyester Upper
We take our top-grain, velvet-like nubuck and oil it to improve its water resistance. This leather upper is extremely durable, while offering a shorter and more comfortable break-in period. It's then paired with abrasion-resistant, camo-dyed polyester to reduce the overall weight of the boot.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Lock & Load Lace System
Ghillies across the forefoot give a secure fit, while locking speed hooks at the top provide quick, easy lacing.
Realtree® Xtra® Camo
Realtree Xtra camo utilizes a robust light and dark pattern plus a multi-directional layout that creates an incredibly 3D effect. Good for all times of the day and year.
1000G Thinsulate Ultra Insulation
High-performance insulation that keeps you warm in the snow and rain without weighing you down.
Danner Talon Outsole
Extremely lightweight, athletic performance in rugged conditions.
How It Fits
This boot is built on our DT4 last. This last provides an athletic fit with a tighter heel pocket and a wider toe box. The sleek, streamlined last is excellent for on or off trail hiking.

Comments about Danner High Ground 8" Realtree Xtra 1000G:

I looked for some time before I bought these boots. I am always skeptical ordering boots on line before trying them on. Danner boots in general have always fit me well so I purchaced a pair of these boots. They have surpassed all expectations I had for them. They are warm in low activity cold weather. And also my feet really didn't sweat when I am active in cold weather either . Wears well, fit like a gym shoe .

Comments about Danner High Ground 8" Realtree Xtra 1000G:

I hunted the Rockies for a week in October. My feet froze. I wore Smart wool socks from 1 pair to three pair. What surprised me was my feet were cold even when hiking. 1000 grams of thinsulate. If anyone has any idea's please share your thoughts. A good warm weather hiking boot.

Thanks

Chuck

Comments about Danner High Ground 8" Realtree Xtra 1000G:

These boots are great! Very warm but not too bulky, I hate the moon boot feel and these wear like an unisulated boot but are incredibly warm. These are my cold season hunting boots hands down. I have a few other pairs of Danners and always order wide so I have plenty of sock room to go with my stubby feet and as always these fit great. I've been a Danner fan for a while now and these are another great pair just a whole lot warmer than my others.

    Not worth the money

Comments about Danner High Ground 8" Realtree Xtra 1000G:

I bought a pair of these and used them for one archery season here in Colorado. The nylon eyelets have worn out and tore. These are the first pair of boots I have ever owned that didn't last as long as the laces they came with.

    High ground

    By Blackbird

Comments about Danner High Ground 8" Realtree Xtra 1000G:

I origionally bought the steadfast boots but they rubbed on my outer ankle bone when side hill walking and caused alot of localized pain. I have had problems with this in other shoes as well, peoples feet are different my ankle bone is a bit higher i think. So i ordered the high grounds to see if they caused the same problem and so i got to try them side by side.

Overall comfort...both shoes are quilte flexible much like a high top tennis shoe so id consider both quite comfortable right out of the box, but the highground seemed to fit my foot alot better and more snugly, my foot felt like it was moving in the shoe less ( both were 9.5) than in the steadfast.

My only gripe with the highgrounds is the fabric lace loops( the steadfast uses metal grommets which seem bombproof). On the HG instead of grommets on the lower laces there are small loops of 1/4" lightweight poly/nylon webbing that the laces thread through. They do not appear renforced in any way and everytime you tighten your laces ( evertime you lace them up), the laces rub the webbing...and in general, rope in motion rubbing directly on webbing is always a bad idea. I'd be willing to wager that this will be the first part of the shoe to go.

The HG didnt cause the issue with my ankle bone and are the most comfortable boot ive ever worn...think waterproof insulated high top basketball shoe. They are super comfortable right out of the box. Ive been wearing them as a day to day shoe some to break them in and they are becoming even better as they break in. I did stand in about 6" of standing water for a min or two and my socks were dry as a bone.

I do wish they had been avail in an insulated version in something besides camo...come on, like the elk youre stalking is gonna see you cause your shoes are brown. Theres not alot, if any, options for a lightweight hiking boot (thats also insulated) unless you buy a hunting boot. Danner, your selling yourselves short by only offering these in camo.
