Quick Overview

Designed for use in mountain warfare, the Gavre is built with a fully rubberized outsole and integrated polypropylene board providing optimal stability underfoot in higher elevations, while still maintaining flexibility for lower-land operations.
Details

Smoothly transition from high-to-low elevations

More flexible than the typical alpine boot, this style was designed to provide the stability and support needed for rocky upper mountain warfare, but still remain versatile enough to smoothly transition from upper to lower elevations. Special attention was given to unique features for mountain and transitional terrains, such as: a flexible lacing system that conforms to and moves with your foot, a unique construction that maintains its flexibility in the cold, and a non-traditional lug system with heavier perimeter outsole lugs for side-hilling movements and pentagonal lugs in the middle for added traction on varying surfaces.

Nubuck Leather & Nylon Upper
For superior abrasion- and scuff-resistance, we use full grain nubuck leather combined with lightweight, breathable nylon. This combination offers some of the best protection in cold and wet environments.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Abrasion Resistant Toe Cap
For added durability, we've added a scuff-proof toe cap to the area that shows the most wear.
PU Midsole
with integrated polypropylene board to provide support underneath the entire length of the foot.
Danner Gavre Outsole
Pentagonal center lugs for optimal surface contact and heavier outer lugs for superior support make this outsole idea for lateral transitions and side hilling.
How It Fits
The DLE-01 last was designed to be an extension of the foot with superior forefoot and heel capture, stability and a more anatomical shape for comfort. The additional space in the toe box allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in high intensity environments.

A great concept and superior materials and assembly, except for size inconsistencies. Danner makes great products, and I have many pairs, but sometimes it's tough to get a pair that match in terms of size, especially width. Ditto Nevada Mac here, who has a smaller right boot too. Had same issue with the "Gunmetal" (Grey) Gavres (except the LEFT boot was a bit smaller, so it's not my feet!) but not as significant and was able to compensate with lacing. Not sure if so with this pair. Problem is seems no more 11EEs in inventory to swap 'em. Right boot will probably stretch over time but will it ever feel same as left? A quandary. Probably keep 'em for now & see how they are in house, until maybe some more inventory. (Also interesting that Gunmetal 11.5D fit fine, but in Olive were huge because I noticed more volume in toe area, so went with 11EE, which is ok, except for L/R boot differential. Ugh!). Wish you guys at Danner would get a handle on this. You'd save a ton in shipping boots to and fro', processing returns, etc..., and you'd sell more boots! With this pair, for instance, I notice that the lace spread is greater on the right/smaller boot. When stitching the pieces of the boots together, the right pieces overlapped more, causing less volume inside the boot. You can see the placement of the pieces of both boots is a little different. Correct this and you've got it! Still and all, I love your products when they're spot on, and your Customer Service is darn' good. You do stand behind your stuff. Thanks Danner!

Great boots

By By Force and Valor

Pros

  • GORETEX

Cons

  • Some Finish

Best Uses

  • Long Walks Heavy Loads

Comments about Gavre 6" Olive:

As an Army Sniper I have worn a few different boots, before these I had the Garmont T6's which I thought were the best. I've had these for about a year now and have been very impressed. I've carried 80lbs rucks for miles with them here in Alaska and Georgia and the soles are good and supportive. In the summer they do get a bit warm but for the trade off of having Goretex and keeping my feet dry I'm fine with that. I think the boots are very comfortable even with the stiffer sole for rough terrain. The wear is not very noticeable, some of the coloring is wearing off on the cushion part of the sole and there is a small cut in the front porting of the rubber sole. They sizing is the same as any other Danner, Altama, Bellville, Garmont.

Comments about Gavre 6" Olive:

I wear these boots everyday all day. I had significant ankle pain and was told about these boots. I bought my first pair before a trip to Scotland. We did a lot of walking and hiking. The boots performed beyond expectations. My only fear is that Danner will stop making this model. I am on my second paid and bought a backup for this reason. Danner should keep this boot in the product line forever.

    Comments about Gavre 6" Olive:

I bought these boots for tactical training and hiking/camping as well. I have owned several pairs of Danner boots over the years in the military and now in law enforcement. All of them have performed flawlessly and I always loved the way they break-in. I purchased these online and they look great and the Goretex works as expected but they are just too uncomfortable. First off, they are heavy boots, which might not be a problem unless you're walking long distances. The soles on these things are super stiff and don't bend or flex at all. On the pair that I got, the right boot was quite a bit tighter than the left, no matter how I laced it. After 8 months of wearing the boots, it's still the same problem. The length is true to size for me though (I wear a size 9D). I don't know if I'm going to be able to break-in these boots or they are gonna break my feet in! Time will tell! I wouldn't recommend these particular Danner boots.

I would not buy this product again

    By Frank

    Comments about Gavre 6" Olive:

Not worth the money. About as comfortable as a boot half the price. Very hot on the feet even though it is uninsulated. Heavier than the competition. Not what I expected, lesson learned.
