Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • Measure both feet. If one foot is slightly larger than the other, select a size that fits the larger of the two.
  • Consider the type of socks you’ll be wearing with your boot. For thicker socks, you may want to select a half size larger than you normally wear.
  • When you do receive your boots, we recommend first wearing them indoors for a few hours to ensure they’re the right fit.

Comments about Danner USMC RAT Temperate Military Boots:

Let's be honest; when I got these they didn't have speed laces, weren't called "RAT" didn't have the EGA (Marine Eagle, Globe and Anchor) on them, and were a prototype boot issued my Marine Corps Systems Command to try to get a rugged boot to deal with Afghanistan's harsh terrain. They were based on Danner's old "Raptor" hunting boot, were not built on the 650 last, and were issued kind of ad hoc. but i got a pair, and at first I was stoked. Then I saw them. And I hated them.

I LOVE Danner's. I was darn near in tears when I had to put up my old black Acadia's (which I still own and hunt and hike in) when the Corps went to coyote brown boots back a few years ago. When Danner was authorized to make USMC boots in the new color they were not the same boots I had grown to love. To get these my hopes were high that they would be the Acadia, just in the new color. Needless to say I was shocked and disappointed. They didn't come with an airthotic, they had some cheap foam insole, they didn't have the built in foot bed of the Acadia/Ft. Lewis line, and they just plain looked weird with the low in the back upper and cheesy thin laces. And they were a PAIN to lace up and get tight with the original eyelets. Oh well, I took them, packed them, and broke them out in a little place called Bastion. To say that place is far out and a bit rugged is an understatement. And it was the place we went to rest and refit.

After about a month I started wearing these boots, then called "Mountain Cold Weather Boot" everyday. After about 2 months they were the only boot I would take on long missions. And then one day about 5 months into the deployment it hit me. They were still there! In one piece! And still looked decent after you hosed the dust off them! Last time I had been in Afghanistan I literally ripped up 2 pairs of USMC Jungle/Desert boots. They were just shredded. These beautiful ugly boots had taken all this punishment and lasted through the whole thing. I ended up finishing the deployment in them and took them home. And I couldn't believe how good they looked after I hosed and scrubbed them when I got home. I even too them back over a second time, only to have to part with them after a good friends wound stained them to the point I couldn't bare to look at them anymore. It's OK though; the Corps gave me a new pair of these "RAT" boots. Same boot, different bells and whistles. I would still love a USMC approved Acadia, and an option to get one with thisulate, but if the hills of Now Zad do not break these things nothing will. I have 2 pair now, and I'm looking forward to getting the "hot" kind to use in the summer. We'll see how they do. great job Danner. You one this old warhorse over.

Comments about Danner USMC RAT Temperate Military Boots:

I was issued these boots for use in Afghanistan and loved them. By far the most comfortable and rugged boot I have ever owned. Danner has always made the best stuff and has really made a winner here. People were questioning the toe and heel caps at first, but because of them they are way easier to clean and they dont get ruined like every other suede boot toe.

Comments about Danner USMC RAT Temperate Military Boots:

I have many pair of USMC issued boots. I have Bates, Belleville, and now Danners. I honestly just got the pair of R.A.T. and I can't go wrong with them!! I honestly believe that they are the greatest boots I've ever owned. I love all my boots. but Danner, I believe u have the upper hand in this moment. by the way the boot is constructed you can tell they put a lot of love, and time into them. Right out of the box they felt and feel great. today I wore them with jeans. they look pretty nice! another thing i would love to point out is the E.G.A. on them its much different then the other boots its not stamped on with paint. its actually been made with a molding. therefor they won't wear off or with time fade away and will always remain on the boot. Now they are a little wide and look like you have big feet! I don't believe theres anything wrong or bad to say about the boot. Im considering buying a second pair but for Hot weather. I recommend everyone to get them you can't go wrong. NOW!! the only thing i would like to say is if you're getting a pair of Winter aka Tempered Boots get them a Half size bigger. why? I wear 9R and these are 9.5 and feel snug on me. but besides that they are outstanding! I believe every Marine should have AT LEAST One pair!! Thank you for your time. Semper Fi

I waited 20 years for these boots.

Comments about Danner USMC RAT Temperate Military Boots:

After 20 years in the Marine Corps, I was finally issued the boot I should have had from the start. I had tried all brands of boots, the worst were some running shoe type that I tried to wear out in the field. The soft sole would roll out from under me on steep side hills, and I would end up rolling down the hill. Not very tactical. I was issued a pair of Acadias in 1992, and they were good boots, took a lot of abuse, and helped me through both the winter and summer Mountain Leader Courses. All the rock climbing finally did them in.
I was issued a prototype of the RAT boot in 2006, and was impressed right away. I wore them on a Ruck March in -10 degree weather, and knew then they were what I should have been issued 20 years earlier. The regular issue boot soles froze when it got below zero, and were like trying to walk with frozen plastic on your feet, because that's what they were. I never deployed with these boots. I retired in 2008, but I have worn these boots all over Montana, Alaska, and Washington state, and will be sending them in to get re-soled. They are the best boots I have ever owned. A Marine's boots are the tool he uses the most. These are the best tool for the job.

Comments about Danner USMC RAT Temperate Military Boots:

As former Marine I understand the value of a good pair of boots. Danner definatly hit a home run with these.
Over the last two weekends I have put on about 17 miles of trail hiking in these. The first trip I was on it was raining and where the trail didnt have 4-6 inches of standing water it was buried in mud. My hiking partners at first had thought I was nuts when I told them what I had paid for these boots. But 9 miles of mud and water later when I had dry feet and they were soaked my boots didnt seem so crazy any more.
The second weekend we made a neck deep swamp crossing. Obviously my feet got wet on that trip but once on the other side I dumped the water out, removed the insoles, wrang them out and changed socks and was good to go.
If I have to say something bad about them it is that they are a little slick on hard wet surfaces. And my feet tend to sweat a bit in them. But small prices to pay for a solid boot.
It took about a week of everyday wear to get them broken in. But that is about average for most boots I have owned.
Bottom line is this: If you are looking for a top quality waterproof boot that is going to be comfortable all day long no matter how many miles that day includes, quit looking and buy these now.
