The Instigator™ GTX® boot combines athletic performance with traditional Danner toughness. The fullgrain leather upper offers comfort and rugged durability while the GORE-TEX® lining provides waterproof, breathable protection. Danner’s patented TERRA FORCE® support system with the Approach TFX™ outsole provides lightweight, durable traction, heel-to-toe energy transfer, side support to enhance maneuverability, and protection from foot fatigue.

This boot is built on our most popular last, the 850. This last fits true to size with an athletic and supportive fit while providing ample room in the toe. This comfortable, supportive fit is ideal for those needing high mileage performance from their gear.
Tips for the Perfect Fit
- Measure both feet. If one foot is slightly larger than the other, select a size that fits the larger of the two.
- Consider the type of socks you’ll be wearing with your boot. For thicker socks, you may want to select a half size larger than you normally wear.
- When you do receive your boots, we recommend first wearing them indoors for a few hours to ensure they’re the right fit.

After trying different models of mid-cut hiking boots, the clerk brought out a pair of high-cut Danner Instigator GTX boots by mistake. I thought, "Why not?," and tried them on. I was surprised just how well they fit -- my feet and ankles felt comfortably locked-down and cradled. My previous boots gave me heel blisters during long hikes. Surprisingly, there wasn't any noticeable heel pressure at all in the Danners (made me smile every time I took a step). The heel-to-toe transition was also very smooth. I took about 7 laps around the store, and marveled at how these boots felt totally broken-in. Needless to say, the Instigator GTXs were the unequivocal winner.
Since that time, I've logged many miles in total comfort and confidence. I did replace the standard insoles with "Danner Fatigue Fighter Plus Footbeds" which only enhances the ride. Thanks, Danner, and count me in as a new, die-hard fan.

Live and play in Oklahoma, work and play in Alaska, these boots work where ever I take them, or they take me. All my work and hunting boots are Danners, will not skimp on my feet, they are well worth the investment and with the rebuild capability of most of Danner boots it just gets better.

I purchased these boots for a backpacking trip in Colorado. I was concerned that with little time to break them in they would give me problems on the trail. After the first day I knew how wrong I was. These boots were extremely comfortable and provided outstanding support and stability day after day. Having worn Danner boots in the military I knew I would get a quality product. Danner has never let me down! The only improvement I would make is to add a pull tab on the back.

First hike was 2 1/2 hr river gorge in Ohio. Very pleased with stability for such light boot. Had only time to take couple easy walks to break-in. Handled the gorge beautifully. No soreness associated with break-in at all. XCLNT! I was a bit dissappointed in traction. Lugs could be deeper with better self cleaning qualities. Outstanding boot though for moderate to easy hikes. Would recommend.

Had 2 pairs and soles cracked on both where they bend on the bottoms. Danner customer service was great and replaced the first pair but not the second of which I understand. That being said both soles on both pairs did crack and there was a lot of life left in the uppers. So I will not be purchasing any more of these. I am a Danner fan and will continue to support their products.
