After two weeks of having this boot the leather started to peel on the toe, high ankle, and sides of the boots. This peeling exposed light colored leather which make the boot look junkie. After about a month the leather had stretched to such an extent that will laces pulled all the way tight and with thick socks my feet still slide around and cause blisters. Rocks slice into the leather easily and the leather comes off in chunks. After 3 months of use the vibram sole's show visible wear and separation. I polish my boots weekly and take time to clean them after use but these boots are in no way water resistant. I am very dissatisfied with the quality of Danner at this time. I boots hoping to price equaled long lasting quality, I was mistaken.

I gave it a year of wearing these boots before commenting. I also bought a pair for Amanda and she says "it's like having a sofa on each feet."
We have bashed the hell out of these boots in the mountains as well as wearing them while poshing it up in Parisian restaurants.
There will be no other boots for us in this life.

These boots are very good for a hiker or backpacker that is looking to have a stable, comfortable shoe do the job. Great ankle support is what I find the most important when I hike and these boots are perfect. The boots (at least for me) required a little break in period and getting used too but that was only about a week or so. These boots are also American made and I would rather buy a product that is going to last me the next 10 years than a product from overseas that would only last about 2.

I wore these boots for over 15 years as a deputy sheriff. They were intended as my summer boots, but I wore them pretty much year-round. I only retired them recently because my department switched to black leather- so I bought a new pair. I wore the soles smooth on these boots, so I had new soles recrafted. Now they're like new boots again and they are my fishing/hunting boots. They are special! They are fantastic! If you buy them, you will get the highest quality boot from an American company to be proud of. From the build to the fit- they are unbelievable! They're tools you need to take care of, so treat them well and you'll be rewarded with something to brag about. I wish I could end my career in them, but I'll enjoy them at home. Just remember that real leather needs to be treated.

Bought these for my wife prior to our trip through eastern Europe in December 2010. Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania. Lots of snow, whole days on our feet, backpacker travel, staying in hostels. She was unhappy that I bought boots for her, but I refused to allow her to travel with inadequate footwear. Fast forward to our first real encounter with 18 inches of snow in Vienna... we are hiking through a vast park and the snow is just everywhere, with ice. She stops suddenly, looks at me squarely in the eyes and says, "thank for for buying these boots. I didn't know until now why I needed them." She had dry, warm feet with good traction for the duration of the trip. The boots are leather and eschew the "astronaut" look of standard "performance" hiking boots, meaning she could still wear them to the nice restaurants or the opera in Vienna.
