Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • Measure both feet. If one foot is slightly larger than the other, select a size that fits the larger of the two.
  • Consider the type of socks you’ll be wearing with your boot. For thicker socks, you may want to select a half size larger than you normally wear.
  • When you do receive your boots, we recommend first wearing them indoors for a few hours to ensure they’re the right fit.

Comments about Danner RAT Temperate Military Boots:

The first pair of danners I put on I was impressed with. As much as I was impressed with that first pair over other boots, I am that much impressed with this pair over those. I've read reviews where people said "no break in" before, and thought people were exaggerating. I put my foot in these boots, and I could flex my foot in in direction: forward, backward, right, left and they boot just moved with my foot with no discomfort. I could bend down and flex the toe and the supple leather in both the toe and the back of the boot just flexed perfectly with my movement. These are amazing. I tied them as tight as I would a pair of boots a year old and they just moved with my foot perfectly. I can't emphasis enough how there was absolutely no break in with these boots.

I've always been an all leather kind of guy and was skeptical to get these as a result of the nylon upper. I was wrong. The nylon looks great on this boot. The color scheme is beautiful. It looks better than it shows in the images.

I purchased these after having owned the older and the newer quarry boots and a pair of the Rainforest boots. These are the nicest pair of boots I have ever owned or worn in my life. They're made in the USA. They're recraftable. They're comfortable and you don't have to break them in. I most highly recommend these boots for any task and any application.

      Best All Around Boot

Comments about Danner RAT Temperate Military Boots:

Not to be redundant, echoing the sentiments of other reviewers...but, truly the best all around boot going. Very comfortable, little to no break in time. The only negative I foresee in regards to these boots is their appearance; they're beautiful! I'm going to have to muster up the courage at some point, to actually wear these for their intended purpose (heavy field work).
One note...I purchased these originally in the regular width and had to exchange them for the wide version. If you have any doubts that your foot might be on the wider side...go for the wide; you can always cinch them a little tighter and/or wear thicker socks.

Comments about Danner RAT Temperate Military Boots:

Had the boots for a few months. Not my first set of Danner's. I love the boots. They get the job done, fit great and were comfortable right out of the box.
I spend a lot of time in the hills and mountains and they have held up well. The toes scratch up on the cap and I would like a way to smooth that out. They are very durable and the support and comfort is top notch.I wear them for work and play and my feet do not get tired after a full day in them. I wouldn't trade them for anything else.

Comments about Danner RAT Temperate Military Boots:

I've had these boots for about 9 months now. I literally could not be any happier with them. I take them for at least one hike per week. These are generally about 7 miles of trail running/ off trail hill climbing and exploring. I have also taken them on a few more extended hikes of 15-20 miles with a 50 lb pack. On every single outing my feet have been warm, dry and comfortable. The comfort level of this boot is unbelievable. The fit is perfect. I have slightly wide feet and the EE width fits great. There is some flexibility in width because of the lacing system. They feel like running shoes but you can walk over and through anything. The shank is very effective at guarding the underside of the foot from sharp rocks and sticks. I did need to replace the insoles immediately with some that provide more arch support. The traction is very adequate even on muddy hillsides etc. Great stability from the wide outsoles. The soles do maintain good grip and flexibility in freezing temps as advertised. I have walked through streams that were almost to the top of the boot and maintained dry feet.

I live in the Midwest where the weather varies greatly. I wore them all summer with medium to lightweight wool socks and my feet were quite comfortable in temps approaching 100 degrees F. I have also worn them in temps down to 10 degrees F with medium weight wool socks and my feet were comfortable. One thing to mention however, is that I was active in the cold weather. I'm not sure how warm my feet would have been if I were sitting in a tree stand or ground blind.

The toe cap does show some wear from rocks and bushwhacking etc. This is minor and does not detract from the appearance of the boot in my opinion. After all, I wouldn't have paid that kind of price for them if I didn't plan to beat the heck out of them!!

I have owned several other reputable brands of boots but none come close to the fit, feel and finish of these. While these were twice the price of most of the other boots I have owned they are twice the quality as well. Most of my previous boots have lasted a year or two at the absolute most. After nine months I'm certain these will outlast any of them. The fact that they are recraftable also helps ease the pain of the price. These were my first pair of Danners and I am a believer. These boots will be part of my gear for years to come.

Comments about Danner RAT Temperate Military Boots:

I was in the CORPS and we never had a boot that felt this good. ITs about [*]time! Ive been a Concrete contractor for almost 20 years and a Hunter for longer and have NEVER, never put a gortex boot on my foot that was so Nice period. "Tip of the hat" Danner. I gave it 4 stars because they got Lazy and didnt put 3 rows of stitching(come on!)A little breakin will be needed (and thats good) because you dont want them to end up sloppy, but compared to the other Danners Ive owned, (non- insulated) Its light-years better.
