Athletic performance with traditional Danner stability

Rated a “Best Buy” by Backpacker Magazine, these boots offer athletic performance with traditional Danner stability. The full-grain nubuck leather upper offers comfort and durability and the GORE-TEX lining provides waterproof, breathable protection. Danner’s patented TERRA FORCE support system with TFX outsole keeps the boot light and comfortable while delivering outstanding traction on long expeditions.

Nubuck Leather Upper
Our top-grain leather is sanded on the outside to give it a slight nap with a velvet-like feel. This leather upper is extremely durable, while offering a shorter and more comfortable break-in period.
GORE-TEX® (GTX)
100% waterproof and breathable, GORE-TEX® liners ensure that no water gets in, while allowing sweat and moisture to get out.
Abrasion Resistant Toe Cap
For added durability, we've added a scuff-proof toe cap to the area that shows the most wear.
Danner Approach TFX® Outsole
Designed for improved acceleration, downhill braking and side-hill traction. The beveled lugs help prevent debris build-up.
TERRA FORCE X platform
Provides lightweight, durable traction, heel-to-toe energy transfer, side support to enhance maneuverability, and protection from arch overwork and fatigue.
How It Fits
This boot is built on our most popular last, the 850. This last fits true to size with an athletic and supportive fit while providing ample room in the toe. This comfortable, supportive fit is ideal for those needing high mileage performance from their gear.

I'm a wildlife field technician and I work outside, all the time. Just over two years ago I bought a pair of these boots on the recommendation of a friend. I've worn them across 6 states and countless days of work and weekends off backpacking. I'm currently working on the big island of Hawaii studying the native forest birds. This involves hiking 5-10 miles a day over old lava fields.

Lava is extremely abrasive and really beaten up my boots. Despite the two years of hard wear I've put into them they are still the most comfortable boots I've ever owned and I am so sad that I have almost worn through the soles.

I've been working this job for over three months and my coworkers have gone through two pairs of boots each, I'm still rocking my danners and plan to till they won't allow me to anymore, and then I plan on getting some new boots, Danners of course :)

Anyway, I've worn a lot of boots in my life and I've never been as happy with a pair as I have been with these.

My critiques are that the laces didn't hold up very well, but once I switched them out for some heavier duty ones it wasn't a problem.

Also it did take longer then I thought to break these in. They were comfotable from day one, but remained stiff for about two weeks (of being worn 10+ hours/day) but once they loosened up they were amazing.

This is my 4th pair of Danner GTX's.

I put these Danners on and hiked 4 miles. Got half dollar blisters on both heels. First time ever with new Danner GTX's.
The boots do not fit well around the instep area; I wish the lacing pattern would allow this area to be locked down more firmly.

The inner cuff material stains my socks: it did this on the last pair also.

I wore them in a local rainstorm and they filled with water. Now they fit slightly better.

After about 6 months of use the stitching at the inner heel liner has parted. I don't know if this is repairable.

Other than that these boots continue to perform well. Would I buy another pair? Yes. Would I be happy about paying Danner's price for something which I feel is slowly losing quality? No.

MISLEAD by American shoe company

Comments about 453 5.5" Dark Tan:

While the 453gtx is a nice shoe I feel I was mislead. The shoe is made in China. Not the U.S.A. as the advertising suggests I am truly disapointed. I chose to buy Danner because I wanted my money to be spent on American products. I wanted to support Danner through my purchase. I guess Danner already sold out to [*]. I guess I am the SUCKER. I am debating sending the shoes back and finding a real American shoe maker. While the 453gtx is a nice shoe I feel I was mislead. The shoe is made in China. No prob w/ the boots. Though ONE of the reasons for choosing Danner over other boot companies was because its an American company. Only to find that the boot is made in China anyway. Shame.

Comments about 453 5.5" Dark Tan:

I broke my left ankle and injured both knees years ago and I wear these boots almost exclusively for their ability to take away most of the day to day pain I experience. They are very stable to hike and trek in and make the days at my garden center much easier to endure on my feet. I have owned several pair of these in addition to the equally fine 452GTX which I also highly recommend. I keep several pair on hand at all times both at home and the cabin. There is no risk in purchasing these boots. BTW, I am generally hard to please.
