My wife and I love to travel. We also enjoy hiking and landscape photography. For our tenth anniversary we decided to go to Ireland. After doing a lot of research, it was clear that I was going to need a solid, reliable and warm pair of hiking boots. They had to function as a hard-core hiker, but they had to look pleasant enough to wear to dinner. I really did not want to take more than one pair of shoes on this trip.

I also wanted a boot that was made in the U.S.A. My search led me to Danner. The fit guarantee was hard to beat and NO BREAK IN!!!??? Wow, this I had to see. I bought this boot after long consideration and I am glad I did. I tried the boots on and they instantly brought a smile to my face. They were like no other boot I had ever worn. Comfy right out of the box and ready to rock! I looked at the tag. Made in China. What?? I couldn't believe it. I was stunned. I should have known the price was too good to be true. Oh well.

In Ireland, they performed like champs both on the wet, cold city streets and the hiking trails. These boots never let me down. Dirty? Just wipe em down with a wet cloth. Problem solved. The dirt just wouldn't stick. I wore these boots everywhere and did so with pride. I trudged through mud puddles and shallow streams. My feet were NEVER wet and they stayed warm no matter what.

Over the two weeks in Ireland, I had grown very accustomed to my Danners. These were supposed to be my new hiking boots, but my feet just weren't happy without them. I began wearing them EVERY DAY! Every day. Besides, they pass for business casual in my office. I love these boots.

About 9 months after the Ireland trip, we went to Estes Park, Colorado for a little adventure. We went hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. Again, these Danners did the trick. Temps ranged from 74 F to 28 F. No problems.

Over a year after I bought them, I still wear them daily, even on weekends. I put several miles on them every day and they have never let me down.

I have a bad right ankle from torn ligaments. I used to wear an ankle brace while hiking in my OLD boots made by another manufacturer. I don't need it with my Danners. So far so good.

It's been over a year now and my Danners are still rockin'. They are getting a little worn, so I will be purchasing a new pair just for work and these will continue as my "everything else" boot. Perhaps a dedicated Danner hiker will be next, but I will never part with my original pair. I love them too much.

I expect more from a pair of danner's. These boot's are too expensive to be just average.

-Have to pull hard on lace's to get tight enough. Need's a second set of speed lacer's.

-From day one I liked the boot, but unlike my grandpa, I wear white socks and these boot's have stained EVERY pair I wear. It's been two month's of solid wear, but when will they stop bleeding onto my socks?!

-Poor Quality leather, I believe, around the ankle. The dark brown dye just won't stop bleeding, but then again, It's a Chinese made boot, something has to be wrong with it.

-If this boot were USA made, it wouldn't be 'the stain master'. Square that away, Danner.

    Comments about 453 5.5" Brown:

I love these boots and will continue to buy them. I wear them every day and I generally get about 2 years of use out of them. Excellent fit and very little "break-in" time. Water-proof, sturdy, good looking and well made.

My only complaint would be that they are not made in the USA. I would gladly pay the extra $$$'s that it might cost to manufacture these boots here in the United States.

I just bought my third pair of these to day . I get them around the first of the year and I wear them every day except sunday . My job is one that you are on the floor most of the day . They usually last 1 year since I am only around 250 lbs. The thought that I had when I first got them is wow , I don't need to get use to them and I could wear them all day without them bothering me . I have no arch and they fit perfect . I see water in the wintertime and they work perfect for soggy conditions . I usually buy a couple laces per year ,but they are cheap. Good boots.

The boots have bad heel support, little arch and haven't broke in after 50+ hours. The right boot is even worse. Very painful on right side of right foot. Extremely disappointed that I bought them online. I would not recommend this boot.

Very disappointed in Danner using the Chinese to manufacture another product. Is there anything made in America anymore? Besides that, the plastic eyelets took me over the edge. You would think that a [$] boot would not have something that cheap on them. I wear the same boots to work, hunt, and just go to town in. They get used. I think being in the hot Arizona heat the plastic would not hold up. Yes they are very comfortable, but not for [$] Chinese made boot.
